Co-infection is bad news—Scientists in Brazil have identified two cases where people were simultaneously infected with two different variants of #COVID19. Co-infection raises the likelihood of *recombination* admixture that generates more variants. 🧵

2) According to the study, co-infection raises the possibility of recombination of the genomes of the different strains, which can generate new variants of the coronavirus.
3) "Although there are a few reported cases of reinfection, the possibility of co-infection by E484K adds a new factor to the complex interaction between immune response systems and SARS-CoV-2 Spike mutations," wrote the authors.
4) ICUs and hospitals across the country are nearing capacity, and governors, state health secretaries, and mayors are calling for more restrictive measures to contain the spread of coronavirus.
5) On Thursday, Sao Paulo state's Governor Joao Doria announced new emergency lockdown measures in Brazil´s richest and most populous state.
"Brazil is collapsing," he said in a video released moments before a press conference about the new measures
6) Variants galore. Crazier is that somehow #B117 maybe has been outcompeted in India. If so, this would be huge and concerning.
7) So what is virus recombination anyway and why is it more dangerous for generating variants? It allows viruses to swap entire sections of their genes. This is like trading notes on large scale (instead of figuring it out randomly by itself).

✈️ Outbreak—47 positive #COVID19 of a 188 seat Vistara flight from New Delhi to Hong Kong have tested positive, after all tested negative 72 hours prior. The scariest thing? Only 8 detected before began quarantine. 39 only identified later during hotel quarantine, 22 at day 12!🧵 Image

The new “double mutation” variant from India 🇮🇳 #B1617 is surging fast in UK—5x increase in % of #COVID19 cases in just 2 weeks. Same with the South Africa 🇿🇦 #B1351 variant. When did they increase? After schools reopened.

Yup—“Canada’s #COVID19 travel restrictions are an inept, deadly failure”

There is a reason #P1 found Canada 🇨🇦 to easily infiltrate. And good reason 30,000 truck drivers cross the US-Canada border every single day without restrictions. Poor leadership.

VACCINE CARD FRAUD—it has begun. eBay lists an “Authentic CDC Vaccination Record Card” for $10.99, sold by a pharmacist in the Chicago area. It’s illegal, federal regulators say. But he has sold 100+ already, reports @ddiamond. #COVID19 #CovidVaccine

2) the problems is that the card itself is genuine. That’s what makes this hard when people secretly resell these untracked blank vaccine cards. Without any public registry to verify, we won’t know. We need a registry!
