At the beginning of March, the Hindu nationalist government of Narendra Modi claimed the country was in Covid-19’s “endgame”.

India is now in a living hell!

Guardian Edit

theguardian.com/world/commenti…
Nations have either banned flights from India, suggested avoiding travelling there or insisted visitors quarantine on their return.

Yet little more than six weeks ago, Mr Modi, with not even 1% of the population vaccinated, declared that the country was the “world’s pharmacy”
Superspreading took place when thousands filled cricket stadiums and millions of Hindus took a dip in the Ganges during the Kumbh Mela festival.

Like Donald Trump, Mr Modi would not give up campaigning while the pandemic raged.
India went ahead with five state elections in April, and an unmasked Mr Modi held huge rallies.

Mr Modi’s brand of Indian exceptionalism bred complacency.

A presumption of national greatness has led to a lack of preparedness, most notably in vaccine production.
The west had encouraged India to become a linchpin in global drug-making, but this week Angela Merkel, the German chancellor, suggested this might have been a mistake.

China and the US are now manufacturing more Covid-19 vaccines than India.
The Indian prime minister suffers from overconfidence in his own instincts and pooh-poohs expert advice.

His ministers turned on a former Congress prime minister for daring to offer them counsel just before he was admitted to hospital with Covid this week.
Last year, Mr Modi sprang a draconian sudden lockdown on India’s billion people.

A shutdown without warning went against the advice of the country’s top epidemiologists, but suited his taste for dramatic gestures.
As with many of the countries hit hardest, India’s death toll was largely avoidable and a result of arrogant and incompetent government.

India is a big, complex and diverse country that is difficult to govern at the best of times, let alone during a national emergency.
Mr Modi has put the onus on state governments to clear up his mess. The buck stops with him.

He should acknowledge and make amends for mistakes that have caused enormous suffering.

He needs to engage with experts on how to uphold restrictions;
Modi should ensure government delivery matches promises; and drop the sectarian ideology that divides when unity is required.

Future historians will judge Mr Modi harshly if he continues with the exceptionalist views that have led to a disastrous public health outcome.

On October 21, the Central Medical Services Society, an autonomous institution under the @MoHFW_INDIA floated a tender online calling for bidders to establish Pressure Swing Adsorption oxygen plants in 150 district hospitals across the country
It seems unlikely that the delay in kickstarting the tender process was caused by a lack of funds: the outlay for 162 oxygen plants (12 plants seem to have been added later) is just Rs 201.58 crore.
On the status of 162 oxygen plants for which contracts were given in 2020, all it said was that they were “being closely reviewed for early completion of 100 percent of the plants”.

A new report by a leading US digital forensic company offers ‘irrefutable’ proof of arrested activist Rona Wilson’s devices being hacked & explains how 22 files were planted.

This is a must read investigation from @Article14live

article-14.com/post/in-bhima-…
These files have, since 15 November 2018, been cited, initially by the Pune Police and then by the National Investigation Agency(NIA), as key evidence.

This evidence led to Wilson and 15 others—including lawyers, academics and artistes—being arrested and jailed without bail!
The files were never created, opened or used by anyone who directly handled Wilson’s computer, but the HACKER used a software to PLANT THEM, said the new report from Arsenal Consulting.

They analysed an electronic copy of Wilson’s computer on a request from his lawyers.

Is it vaccine hesitancy or vaccine shortage?

Only data can answer!

Like demonetisation, Govt now says they will let all above 18 can have vaccine?

What is your plan to give 2nd dose of vaccine to already vaccinated people?
When you make an offer to people, you should spell out your plans.

Let us be clear about the stocks..

If there is a demand-supply gap is there, how you are planning to address it?

Is it available to import at short notice? Still you control it or let the States to take a call
Do you have the man power to do vaccination now as the existing health professionals are stretched with treating the #COVID19 patients?

Do we create a demonetisation model ATM queues & create stampede and super spreading?

Let us understand Petrol taxes clearly to see that whether it is possible to bring them under GST.

A small #thread for you.

You should understand the tax regimes first to understand the nuances.

Price Build up of Petrol (Ex-Delhi)
There are two sets of taxes are levied on the Petrol, first is by Union Govt, which is collectively called Excise Duty and Second one is the taxes imposed by the State Government called Sales Tax.

First of all understand that both taxes are distinctively different tax regimes
Let us first understand how the Union Government tax works.

It is a specific tax or unit tax, that means it is a FIXED amount levied on per litre of the Petrol, ie, it is not affected by the price of the fuel in the market.

Tarlochan Singh, an elderly farmer, summed up the mood, saying:

“It is not merely about a few legal infirmities in the laws. It is the philosophy of governance that will trigger a national crisis, a situation that will widen the conflict between the rich and the poor...
If this direction is not changed, we may be heading for civil war in this country. We have to understand the nature of the threat first; it is not about legalese, it is about life.”
“Everybody is going to be affected — the small businessmen, the agriculture workers, the consumers. We don’t need governments, courts and committees to tell us what our pain is.

Why is the government doing such a favour that will endanger our lives?

While the Prime Minister tweeted his outrage at the insurrection at Capitol Hill, he has been silent on the Badaun rape of a 50-year-old woman in a temple.

"Selective outrage" is a ploy adopted by Modiji from day one, and the godi media dance along! nationalheraldindia.com/opinion/why-is…
How many farmers have died on the outskirts of Delhi, in the freezing cold, as they protest peacefully against the Modi government’s farm acts? At last count, 60.

The dear PM has felt no remorse or pain or shame. He carries on with his publicity routines while pretending to work
Not one tweet from our prolific tweeting PM.

The 56-inch strongman who does not have the courage to face India’s farmers.

He is helped immeasurably by a pusillanimous media, the bulk of which has been unable to cover the farmers’ protests with any semblance of professionalism.
