This was a pretty historic moment in TV
I used to think that Cosby's from grace after assault charges and America's conflicted relationship with the Cosby Show was a uniquely American thing. Until I read about "Hey Dad!" a HUGELY popular Australian sitcom where the lead actor was accused of abusing his sitcom daughter
Australians were horrified that "Australia's Dad" was a serial abuser. In 2014 he was sentenced to 10 years in prison for assaulting young girls including his TV daughter.
Like the Cosby Show, Hey Dad! Is mostly erased from streaming services and is hard to find outside of iTunes. dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9…

This us the kind of lazy anecdotal analysis that was supposed to die in the 90's but gets occasionally resurrected by self-serving black politicians hoping to gain favor with white conservative voters and media... About "acting white" a short thread....
I've had black people say I "talked white" or "acted white" as a critique but it was NEVER about academic or financial success, it was short hand for a lack of perceived cultural competence. And honestly no one has said that to me really since high-school.
Being accused of "Talking white" in informal or social black settings was a way of saying "Relax, there's no need to code-switch here. It's just our people" it wasn't even always about grammar, sometimes it was tone or cultural references (a Seinfeld reference no one gets etc)

This is a long..... Perhaps a little unwieldy but a decent summation of some part of black genre culture...

I've never used the term #Blerd because
1. Just doesn't roll off my tongue
2. It makes whiteness the default for Fandom identity
I also think the term "Nerd" has been so watered down that it means anybody who likes something and that Mae's the term less powerful
Being a "nerd" implies above average intelligence, not just being socially awkward or interest in science fiction. Rae makes a good point here about the definition creep of "nerd" . Issa on @insecurehbo is NOT a nerd or a geek. She's an awkward black girl. Big difference Image

A couple of people have responded to this thread about #Cuomo with "What about Northam?" I felt the same way about him. Neither he nor Justin Fairfax should have resigned, until an outside investigation occurred, then made public
Northam was about 15 minutes from resigning over blackface photos of him from 30 years ago re-surfacing, not to mention him lying about it. Fairfax would have replaced him, becoming only the second black governor in Va history and one of the few black governors ever
Within days allegations of sexual assault were levied against Fairfax, and calls for his resignation overshadowed blackface scandals with Democrats Northam AND the AG. It was incredibly convenient for Northam given Fairfax's rising star at the time usatoday.com/story/news/pol…

As a general rule, unless a politician has committed a criminal offense (and even then it's not automatic) I don't think they should be forced into resignation. It's ultimately up to the voters to decide who they want to represent them. IE: Cuomo likely won't resign
Obviously if the crime committed is one that keeps the politician in POWER (election disruption, influence peddling) then yes they should be bounced, likely by an impeachment process after an outside investigation
In #Cuomo case, as bad as the allegations are, there should be a full investigation carried out by a non-governmental agency. Then his party and the voters can decide what they want to do with him. The key is an investigation

Could barely get through one episode of #ginnyandgeorgia . I swear sometimes you can look at the casting alone and realize nobody who looks like you or has any cultural knowledge about you was in the writers room for a show
OMG thank my spidey sense that told me to stop watching #ginnyandgeorgia after EP1. If I had invested in this show long enough to watch cringe worthy idiotic racially insulting scenes like this in later episodes I would've damn near canceled #Netflix
Who writes this stuff? And where were thier black and Asian friends and co-workers to tell them to stop?

Brady is the best football player in the modern Era if you control for racism, coaching and division competition. Doesn't mean he's not the greatest but context matters
The #GOAT conversation depends on how you think of individual vs team sports. Football is HARD - a long career of success is almost impossible. But Basketball requires you play offense AND defense (unless you're Harden) so I'd put LeBron, Russell, Jordan ahead of #Brady
Easily 3 of #Brady #SuperBowl wins were
defense #seahawks
Special Teams #Rams 2000
Defense #Rams 2018

LeBron, Jordan, Russell had to be on the court the whole time. Again doesn't take anything AWAY from #Brady but a "Team sport" hits different when you have to defend too
