Congress lost its cadres to various group leaders. Their erosion continued to this day despite some wins in between due to other factors.

The organisation was losing its base or connectivity with the base even when they had support and image with the masses.
/1
Congress should be restored back to the masses, a place where it has roots. It should be taken out of the grip of group leaders and group culture.
Democracy is the strength of the Congress party. Where is it now? It was throttled by the group leaders to retain their supremacy.
/2
The democratic process would have thrown up mass leaders who remain connected to the people. They naturally would have become a threat to group leaders and their linkage to the group itself. So democratic elections within were replaced more often by ad hoc measures.
/3
Even party posts were proportionately distributed to various groups within, a farce in the name of unanimity without elections. It was again power bargaining.

The genesis and onset of this disease creating power centres were ignored initially till it took deeper roots.
/4
The disease then has percolated so deep that leaders more openly started blackmailing and bargaining.

The compromises for short term targets became regular with corrections becoming impossible and the status quo continued till now hurting the emergence of new leaders.
/5
Since it has continued for decades it is difficult to justify reasons for these failures. But the fact is it happened.
The rule of Indira and Rajiv were curtailed, destabilised, terminated even before they could contemplate initiating long term measures to set right Congress.
/6
After their exit, there was no mass leader in a strict sense of the term nationally and notionally to control and initiate measures.
Sonia depended on various group leaders for their expertise and every measure was decided and dictated by them. So the status quo continued.
/7
The vested interest of group leaders had a conflict of interest in the potential emergence of Rahul as a mass leader with a clearer vision and determination to set right the root cause of failures of the Congress.
Naturally, the opposition for him in all forms emerged.
/8
Becoming a mass leader is a process. It does not always happen overnight. Rahul required the support of the organisation which was under the control of group leaders who were working against him.

Even after becoming President of INC, he could not freely exercise his powers.
/9
It is not limited to becoming a mass leader. There is a need to create mass leaders at every level on the ground.

It is possible if Rahul has the freedom to implement his vision and set the process rolling for evolution, implementation of the solutions after discussions.
/10
But the entire process was blocked, curtailed, thwarted at the outset questioning his leadership and his ability to foresee what is right and wrong or how to fight the Modi regime.

Without organisational support, no one can win any game. So it continues to affect Congress.

‘The nature of Congress is lost and the depth, understanding of Gandhi, Nehru is not there’ stated Rahul.

Where the mass-based movement driven by Congress party and its leaders went on wrong track losing its mass base and more controlled by groups of leaders or power brokers?
/1
It is evident that Congress has always been led by a conglomerate or mixture rather than a fusion of leaders of different ideas from left to right and were guided by democratic culture, principles, philosophies of Congress.

But they were united in addressing public concerns.
/2
The domination of groups within started happening possibly post-Nehru-Shastri period. There were instances even before of leaders with identical, similar views grouping together.

But post-Shastri period the tussle became power-centric in the garb of principles, policies.

No one can stop Rahul from taking over as Congress President again if he agrees to it. Even if he does not agree, his political control over the party, people will not diminish in any way.

He talked about the drastic changes required in Congress. He will make it a reality.
/1
His steady, steadfast approach, clarity and firmness on issues do indicate that Rahul is going to go ahead with his plans of rejuvenating congress come what may.

He continued with it even after his resignation as INC President. Why will he dilute his plans now?
/2
When drastic changes are to be effected they should be carefully planned and executed.
It is not easy to change the mindset of people habituated to a process or system.
One has to wait for the idea to settle in their minds and the political weather becoming conducive for it.

Do we have a political leader like Rahul with such a rare combination of positive qualities? How can one ignore?
Let us list some of them here.
He speaks from the heart frankly, openly without inhibitions.
He talks about inadequacies of Congress; says it must change radically.
/1
Rahul admits some differences, dissatisfaction among leaders; insists on discussions ensuring democratic space, culture within.
He does not see anyone as a threat or enemy if they raise questions, but still respects & loves them. He even loves Modi and registers it with a hug.
/2
There is no hesitation on his part to speak truth even if it politically hurts him.
He is fervently and consistently raising his voice against fascist Modi regime.
Rahul says he will speak his mind even if he was to fight all alone against Modi, BJP, RSS till his last breath.

We love reading about the heroic achievements of Gandhiji and other heroes.
Gandhiji’s followers were not experimenting with truth like him. But they were experiencing the truth and enjoying that path.
Rahul is following Gandhiji’s footsteps and is practising the truth.
/1
It is not possible or necessary to do what Gandhiji did. One need not indulge in ‘Experiments with truth’ like him to reach his exalted status.
But the Congress party and its leaders can try to retrace the Gandhian path. Maybe, they are too conscious of their status to do it.
/2
If Gandhiji was self-conscious about his status he would not have become a symbol of simplicity with half dhoti; would not have achieved what he had with his moral courage in pursuing truth, leading the people.

Rahul has such courage to lead people on the right path.

Many may acknowledge the strengths of Nehru Gandhi family but may still have doubt whether Rahul has it in him to lead and fight against Modi & defeat BJP.

We are inclined to believe that his potential is doubtful or deceptive unless proved.
Post facto ‘predictions’ are easy.
/1
When we refuse to see the truth or read signals correctly we deceive ourselves. But we conclude that the strength of the individuals or issues are deceptive.

We fail to apply logic and sense to every aspect of successes, failures, information but jump to conclusions.
/2
The successes and failures are decided by many factors. They should not be seen or compared in isolation. Circumstances and challenges before Rahul and Congress were many.
When Rajiv took over Congress organisation strength was better. When Rahul took over it was in bad shape.

The blames, criticisms, insults, indignities piled on the Nehru Gandhi family are unlimited. This is in spite of their sacrifices, two with their own lives in service of our country and people.
In this land of dharmas, values and truth, 'yudhs' are also waged against them.
/1
Even if purely political it is way too unethical and totally unjustified.
But it is not always political forces but the vested interests with ulterior motives, agendas corrupting the minds of innocents and ignorants with jealousy, prejudices but bereft of truth, logic, reason.
/2
The only fault of the Nehru, Gandhi family or the ‘dynasty’ as they call them, is their care and concern for the country, its people and their continued connectivity, bonding with people, the response, respect they get from them.
This hurts and blocks few vested interests.
