So many people who fell for the “northerners voted Brexit” myth are now confused as to why these supposed “left behinds” vote Tory.
But it’s only once you deconstruct this myth can you see what’s really happening.

Many London remainers even themselves but into the myth that the capital is thus (say it quietly) morally better: we at least voted remain & don’t vote Tory - but this is part of the same myth..

Cities voted remain as they were younger - north & south - and particularly those that attract lots of young (from everywhere).

We need to think less about the split between incomes and look more at home ownership.
The supposed reasonable income 35 old in London who can’t buy a 1-bed flat may in theory look more prosperous (metropolitan) than the modest retired home owner in the midlands/north...

Once you get to this point you realise pro Brexit & increasingly pro conservative voting is not a factor of income or region but largely a factor of 2 interconnected points:

If I’m correct - then London & the growing cities will increasingly vote Labour & Green..while northern/midland towns ever more conservative.
This is of course why the Conservatives - for all their austerity cuts - triple locked pensions.

Londoners & city dwellers - even when on £30kplus - will want state rent rules/controls & more housing. Supposedly “modest income” home owning over 55s in towns will want opposite.
The UKs distorted housing market is thus breaking down the traditional income-voting system.
