CM Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray’s address to the state;
Namaskar,
I met you a couple of days ago. You know why I am meeting you today.
Firstly, the Supreme Court has praised us for handling the COVID situation.
This is not the machinery’s success alone. We cannot fight this battle without your help & co-operation. So, I am thanking you for your patience and discipline.
Here’s a little update on the current scenario;
On April 25th, Maharashtra had about 7L active COVID cases. This number has fallen to 6,41,910 on May 4th. But, cases are rising marginally in some districts.
We are enhancing the health infrastructure.
• isolation beds have been increased to 446, 639
• oxygen beds to 1 lakh
• 30,419 ICU beds and,
• 12,179 ventilators
The State Government is committed to vaccinating the 6 crore citizens in the 18 to 44 age group.
We have the capacity to vaccinate 10 lakh citizens daily and have touched the figure of 5 lakh.
Vaccine production is gradually increasing. The Central Government supplies vaccines as per the availability. We will increase vaccination as vaccines become available.
Maharashtra produces 1,200 MT oxygen daily and the utilization is 1,700 MT. The Centre has approved 500 MT linkages from other sources. We have sought an extra 200 MT in anticipation of the impending third wave.
I have directed the administration to ensure that the production of oxygen in Maharashtra, which is at 1,200MT be enhanced to 3,000MT daily.
Our ‘Mission Oxygen’ will make Maharashtra self-reliant in oxygen supply.
While we were fighting this precarious battle, the SC has given a decision on the Maratha reservation, which is disappointing. We are studying this ruling. I thank my brethren and leaders from the Maratha community for their restraint.
This is not the time for us to fight each other. We are on the same page.
The SC has shown us the way ahead by stating that it is the prerogative of the Central Government and the Hon’ble President.
Like the Parliament's decision on the Atrocities Act, Article 370, and the Shah Bano judgement, the Maratha reservation can also be acted upon.
All political parties & the people of the State are united in this demand. We will write to the Hon’ble Prime Minister and if necessary, we will also meet him.
I am sure that you will continue to show restraint in the fight against COVID & also not fall prey to the propaganda of some. Have faith in the Government.
Jai Hind, Jai Maharashtra!

Greetings on Gudhi Padwa.
From December to February, we had controlled COVID well. This credit was yours and that of the health system and the state machinery.
But things have changed. We felt that we were winning the war, but this battle has begun again.
Despite capacity additions, the system is under strain. There is an oxygen shortage. Around 1,200 metric tons of oxygen is manufactured daily in Maharashtra.
We have earmarked 100% of this for medical purposes. Today, 950 to 1,000 tons is being used for Corona patients.
Oxygen will be procured from as far as 1,300 kms from states like West Bengal.
