It's still WAY too early to rank them, but having done my preliminary work on 16 QB prospects for 2022, here are my early thoughts.
There are no top tier talents like we had in 2021.
Prior to the 2021 season, there were three QBs vying for the top spot. All three of them would go at the top of the first round, with the addition of a fast riser in Zach Wilson and a late one in Mac Jones.
None like that here.
Doesn't mean that there won't be a top flight QB in 2022, and for reasons I'll go into there almost certainly will be at least one or two.
What the 2022 class lacks at the top it makes up for with very strong depth. It's among the deepest QB classes I can remember, with loads of talent that could go at any point in the draft. Good year to pick a guy to develop behind an aging starter nearing the end at value.
There's also a strong mix of pocket passers, runners, and the spectrum inbetween, so there's a lot of pick your poison in the class.
Collectively, at least so far, the arm strength is better than 2021, with few 'noodle armed' guys that will be overhyped when they can't chuck it.
Again, way too early to rank them, but here's a few that I think I'm starting off higher on or lower on than the consensus, and some very preliminary, early, still lots of work to do thoughts on them.
Spencer Rattler/Sam Howell
The general consensus is around these two at the top in whichever order.
I tend to fall into that camp, but there's not much distance between them and the next group of guys for me. There's franchise traits, but many questions.
Kedon Slovis
I am unlikely to have Slovis in the top 32 picks at this time, so color me unimpressed with people mocking him in the top 2 of the draft. Slovis makes Mac Jones look like Michael Vick in terms of mobility. Better arm at least, but about as dynamic as a potato.
Desmond Ridder
Probably smart to come back for another year, but he would have went pretty high in 2021 based on who ended up going where in this past class.
Pretty dynamic dual threat with tons of tools, should rocket up...or down...depending on if he's developed.
Carson Strong
I had Strong rated near the bottom of the 2021 group, so in a deeper class he's unlikely to be rated very highly. Tape got better from 19-20, though, so I'm keeping an open mind.
JT Daniels
Very efficient passer in extremely limited play. The 1st round talk is ludicrous based on what he's shown, but what he's shown is enough that he could build that hype if he's able to replicate it over time.
Malik Willis
At first I thought it was crazy people putting him in 1st round consideration, but after some preliminary work I can see why.
He's a wow player. Lots of plays that make you say Wow. Either WOW! or wow...
Matt Coral
Didn't pop when I was watching Elijah Mitchell and others, but when watching him individually he really got me interested. There's talent there, I'm intrigued to watch more.
I only have 27 more quarterbacks to do prelim on, so I might add to this. But that's it so far!

Since we're talking about bad draft picks, I think it's time for one of those old walks down memory lane, y'all. Wanna walk through the past few GMs and their draft classes?
We're gonna go back a ways.
So the Lions have always had a wonky front office set up. How they've had it under Wood/Quinn/Patricia is probably the most easily understood power structure they've had in decades, and probably the best organized (in theory, obviously, still gotta hire the right people).
Pre-Millen, they had a guy named Chuck Schmidt.
Schmidt took over the Lions in 1989 and was pretty stand offish. Kind of like how Rod Wood is today, really, he just kinda hired people and then pissed off somewhere.
Most of my followers are here for the football takes, but I'm a big film, music, and game guy as well.
There are few singers or musicians I mention more often than Sam Cooke, who died on this date in 1964.
Cooke had one of the most unique sounds, both of his day and until now.
These are his top five songs on Spotify, each a timeless classic in his own distinct style, but also varied in tone, topic, and mood.
Cooke could bring it no matter what you were feeling, and you couldn't help but sing along if you were the type to when the mood struck.
I'm currently nearly five years older than Cooke was when he was killed, and considering the quality and volume of his work I think it's one of the greatest cultural tragedies that we were robbed of what he could have done with a full career.
Good morning! As we get ready for the defensive players to kick off the Combine today, it's time to wrap up yesterday and that means it's Running Back #RAS#Thread time!
First off, here's the QB table so you can just go there and get the info on every prospect at once. It will be updated as I add new players throughout the process and when official splits come in.
