When we talk about tech in #Canada, it normally stops at the #Ontario border, while we in the creative mecca of #Canda's West Coast gets little to no love.

In the last 6 months alone 6 #Vancouver co's reached $1 billion mark🦄

Here's a 🧵on the City's burgeoning tech ecosytem
1. At the top of the list is @dapperlabs, the makers of @nbatopshot, with their latest investment round they are now valued at $7.5 billion. Michael Jordan and Kevin Durant are investors.

NFT's are the future, and Dapper is leading the charge globally.

2. Hailing from Burnaby is @goclio. They recently raised at a valuation of $1.6B, making them the first legal practice management unicorn in the tech world!

Props to @jack_newton for what he and his team have built.

4. @Thinkific the #Vancouver-based platform for creating and selling online courses, went public on the TSX and is now valued at over $1 billion.

5. Once located in Vegas, GeoComply relocated to #Vancouver mainly to access the talent pool. This cybersecurity firm is now valued at $1 billion.

This should further reiterate to the @BCNDP and @KahlonRav that we need to strengthen our talent pool here

6. Last but not least we have #Canada's biotech darling @AbCelleraBio now valued at $16 billion on the stock market.

They're also opening up a brand new HQ in Mount Pleasant aka Mount Pixel creating hundreds of new well paying jobs.

These are all on top of many other great success stories from Hyper Wallet to Article and many in between.
#Vancouver is home to Amazon's Canadian HQ, 4 Microsoft offices, a world-leading VFX hub, the 2nd largest AR/VR hub, and a big player in E-Sports and Gaming.
Traditional media (even locally) won't talk about it, our politicians both provincially and municipally won't boast about it.

Goddammit somebody needs to be the CEO of #Vancouver because right now we're wasting it on mediocre leadership on all levels.

As a self-proclaimed 🍔 connoisseur here my list.

Dop your suggestions. I know many of ur faves u already tweeted aren't on the list

Number 10: Golden Era Foodtruck. There are only 3 options here, The Cali, The Golden, and The OG. You can't go wrong with either of them. Follow them on IG and you'll know where this food truck will be next!

Number 9: The Cheeseburger from Wakwak Burger is always a good quick cheap eats option. Don't let the price fool you this burger is amazing and as a bonus it won't break the bank.

1. A thread on Downtown #Vancouver's office construction boom. When it's all said and done there will be roughly 10 million SQ FT of space will be added to just the core.

Here's a brief rundown on what is already approved and under construction...
2. We'll start with what is dubbed as Amazon's unofficial HQ2, or at the very least it's Canadian HQ. At 1.1 million SQ FT this is the largest office development in the city and will help shift DT east as it will house 7500 jobs once occupied.

3. The Amazon building is also significant because it will animate that stretch of West Georgia, Homer, Hamilton and Dunsmuir. It will no longer be a black hole for pedestrian activity. There will be approx. 185,000 square feet of retail and food hall space.
