Please listen to the entire interview. As maddening as you will find it, to hear EO'T twist the facts - there is appropriate pushback from CBC's Jayme Poisson.

Note, at 20:45 Mr. O'Toole claims to have run on being a pro-choice. Please see next tweet w/article disputing this ...
2/
(abbrev) "O'Toole explicitly asked so-cons to make him their 2nd or 3rd choice on ranked ballot. [R]eassured them if elected, he would allow free votes on private member bills to restrict abortion, including letting his cabinet vote in favour of them." rabble.ca/columnists/202…
3/
(abbrev) "O’Toole attacked rival MacKay for saying he’d require Con cab members to vote against leg that would reopen abortion debate. O’Toole promised backbench Con MPs & cab mins would be free to vote their conscience on abortion & assisted dying." thestar.com/politics/feder…

should have tagged @jayme_poisson
5/
btw, I happen to think it's important to hear what he has to say, bec it will help to know what spin the CPC are planning to use during the next fed elexn. It's good to know what he's saying, so that we can dispute the misleading narrative(s) 🤷‍♀️
6/
- the first five minutes are about Bill C-10. Summary: Jayme Poisson asks Erin O'Toole about his promise to repeal the bill if they form gov't. (CPC don't like the part about web giants being regulated like radio & TV - a section removed then put back in). ...
7/
Bill C-10 segment cont'd:
CBC's Jayme Poisson asks: "Why not just fix this one part of the bill you don't like?"

O'Toole says "You can protect our culture w/o eroding people’s freedoms on the internet."

- & accuses Heritage Min of changing his mind, doesn't answer the Q
8/
next topic: O'Toole is asked if the fact Alta premier Kenney and Ont premier Ford under fire about mishandling the pandemic - especially the 3rd wave, hurting his chances in the next elexn? Hurting his brand?

O'Toole blames fed vaccine supply, rapid tests, CanSino misinfo ...
9/
Poisson pushes back, points out CanSino didn't interfere w/procurement of other vaccines (my summary, not quoting); that "the feds did procure millions & millions of rapid tests that have been sitting w several of the provs, in particular Ont;" ...
10/
con't pushback from Jayme Poisson: "on dosing regime there has been evidence that delayed doses is beneficial."

She asks "can't this gov't walk & chew gum at same time?"
11/
at 09:15/24:31 comes back to the premier
"We knew that vaccines weren't going to be here until late Spring, so don't these premiers have a great amt of responsibility for what is happening within their provinces - Dough Ford & Jason Kenney?"
12/
O'Toole makes it sound like the only reason Ont and AB in trouble is bec of lack of steady vaccines in Jan and Feb. He ignores mentioning any other health measures that were/are needed, mentions UK & US vaccines. He will NOT attribute ANY responsibility to Ford and/or Kenney
13/
Poisson pushes O'Toole to answer her repeated question of whether he'll campaign with Ford and Kenney. Sounds like he will, but he's somewhat evasive. Doesn't definitively answer, but also doesn't seem to rule it out.
14/
13:25 mark
Jayme Poisson brings up about CPC MP Tamara Jansen's comments regarding conversion therapy and about lesbian activity. O'Toole avoids condemning Jansen's words in the House of Commons. Says "I expect a high degree of compassion and respect during debate" ...
15/
Poisson asks what did he (O'Toole) say to Jansen about it. O'Toole calls it an academic debate. He tries to pivot by mentioning that she wasn't the only one who quoted the bible.
CBC's Poisson: "I think for many listening that wasn’t an academic debate, that was hurtful"
16/
at 17:12 mark
Poisson: "in Jan your party booted out Derek Sloan for taking donations from a known white supremacist. But he had been controversial before then, with his comments about Dr Tam." (paraphrased)
...
17/
CBC's Jayme Poisson continue with her question to Mr. O'Toole on Sloan as follows, and I quote: "did you not call him out sooner, because you needed the social conservatives to vote for you to become leader?"

🔥🔥🔥
18/
(this segment is where I commented at the top of this thread)

O'Toole "Well I take everyone at their word. If they say - no, that's not what I meant"
Jayme "well, what did he mean then?"
O'Toole pivots to saying there was a pattern of behaviour from Sloan.
...
19/
CBC's Jayme Poisson asks Erin O'Toole repeatedly what did he think Derek Sloan meant. She asks: "what do you think he meant when he questioned her working for Canada or China? How did YOU take it?"

He never really answers.
*to clarify - he mentions that he ran as a leader who is pro-choice, in the midst of explaining why Sloan was ousted by the caucus. See the top of my thread, which includes links to articles questioning how pro-choice he really is.
20/
O'Toole concludes w "We don't need leadership by photo-op or press release."

- anyone-else think this makes O'Toole seem out of touch. After all, that was specifically during the 2015 campaign. Not how PMJT governs, IMO
21/
clarification for tweet 8/
when I write:
O'Toole blames fed vaccine supply, rapid tests, CanSino misinfo
- I'm referring to Erin O'Toole using the CPC narrative that includes misinformation about CanSino, as an excuse for why Ford & Kenney mismanaging Covid-19 mitigation
22/
Last Feb, Justin Ling fact-checks a Nat'l Post article on CanSino. He notes "I'm told Procurement never even started conversations with the Chinese company for an actual supply agreement for vaccines — it never got past the initial development phase with the NRC. ...
23/
@Justin_Ling also notes (in the same tweet from Feb 24, 2021) Meanwhile, here's when our vaccine contracts were signed:
Moderna (July 24)
Pfizer (Aug. 1)
Johnson & Johnson (Aug. 24)
Novavax (Aug. 27)
Sanofi (Sept. 11)
AstraZeneca (Sept. 24)
Medicago (Oct. 22)
- btw, I simply quote Mr Ling from his tweet, rather than link it, bec I didn't wish to link to NP thread. To go to the thread, copy the following sentence to your clipboard:

Justin Ling Procurement never even started

- and paste in the Twitter search box
24/
- here's the sequel (not sure if I'll get around to noting highlights of this second half, or not)

Regarding tweet 15/
I missed a couple of words* in CBC’s Jayme Poisson’s response to Erin O’Toole’s calling CPC MP Tamara Jansen's comments in the HoC “academic.”
Jayme Poisson said: “I think for many *people listening, that wasn’t an academic debate, that was *very hurtful.”
Regarding tweet 6/
- should have had added info read: (CPC don't like section of proposed Bill C-10, regulating "user generated content on the internet"), w/o specifically mentioning web giants

- & why won't they propose fixes, rather than campaign on appealing it, if it passes?

@CBCEyeopener excellent segment, where your guest talks about the problems with non-essential travel during the pandemic: the UK opening up travel for the citizens to other tourism destinations (fir instance); visiting countries who aren't as well off; overtourism.
2/
I couldn't figure out your guests' last name, her first name is Carla, with the University of Waterloo.

When she talked about overtourism, I thought about this map from an excellent article on the subject (link to article next tweet)
Map google.com/mymaps/viewer?…

Here's the article. While Carla didn't mention cruise ships, and this article is mostly about them, there are also excellent sections in the piece that apply to any type of travel storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/70b3f9…

Premier Kenney finally just started speaking cpac.ca/en/direct/cpac…
2/
oh FFS
second sentence spoken "but the vaccines didn't arrive fast enough"

It's not the fed vaccine distribution that is causing our rising cases! It's provincial health measures that matter
3/
Kenney lists a bunch of places, including major cities & towns that will be more restricted, because their case counts are higher. Why not just make it province-wide?

Janyce McGregor "dosing intervals lies w/prov jurisdictions. Alta, for ex, is ahead of jurisdictions as being fully dosed. Other countries extended beyond initial wndw. NACI an independent branch. Not denying there's scientific debate, but not feds that decide this" (paraphrased)
(@CBCNews regarding Conservative motion before the House for debate during today's Opposition Day)
clarification
- rereading my abbreviation in tweet 1/
it can be misunderstood as reading that Albertans are fully dosed. What was said was more to do with Alberta being ahead in terms of how close we are to being fully dosed, compared to some other provinces.
