Having the right desk setup makes work easier, more productive, and more enjoyable. It also helps you avoid injuries that are associated with sub-optimal setups.

Here are a few tips on leveling up your home office.

Thread 👇
✅ It's important to set your desk up in a way that suits your body. Here’s the seated posture that many experts advise (but do what feels right for you):
- Upper legs at 90-120 degree angles to your back
- Lower legs at 90-130 degree angles to upper legs
- Feet flat on the floor
✅ Posture cont…
- Upper arms hanging down loosely
- Lower arms at 90-120 degree angles to upper arms
- Back and neck straight but relaxed
- Face 20-30 inches from monitor
- Top of screen at eye level
- Screen has 10-20 degree tilt
- Same for standing desks (minus the leg stuff)
🤔 Standing vs sitting?

Short answer: Too much of either can be problematic. If you can, try alternating between the two. Consider getting a tall stool for your standing desk, a converter for your sitting desk, or a desk that changes heights easily.
Now let’s get into your desk:

📏 Size: Generally, a depth of 30 inches and a width of 36-60 inches should suffice. Decide what you want to keep on it before buying it and get the appropriate size for you.
🖥 Monitor(s): Invest in a monitor (or laptop stand). Note the positioning above. Consider monitors that reduce eye strain.

⌨️ Keyboard: Laptop keyboards aren't great for prolonged typing. Get an ergonomic keyboard. Avoid keyboards that tilt up or have number pads attached.
🐭 Mouse: Grab an ergonomic mouse. And if you feel tension in your wrist, consider a palm rest.

💺 Chair: Look for good lumbar support, adjustable height, and adjustable armrests. You should have 1-2 inches between the back of your knees and the chair. Try it before you buy it.
🛠 Hardware: Only hardware that you frequently need access to should be on the desk. Mount, hang, or put away everything else. Also, consider a cable management system.
🦄 Personalization: Personal items can elevate your energy, so add some photos, etc. But too much can be distracting.

💧 Water: And make sure there's always a glass of water handy.
As for the rest of the office:

☀️ Natural light reduces stress and anxiety, and improves mood and concentration. Choose a room with lots of sunlight. Put your desk by a window. Use LED lighting or daylight simulators when you're not getting enough natural light.
🌱 Plants prevent fatigue and keep you focused. They can actually boost productivity by 15%. And they purify the air. Try snake plants, spider plants, pothos, or English ivy.
🔥 Keep it warm. One study found that 77 degrees was optimal, and resulted in increased productivity and decreased errors.

🎧 Remove audio distractions like traffic, noisy neighbors, etc. with noise-canceling headphones, brown noise, the sound of rain, classical music, etc.
🎨 The color of your office can affect how you feel. Green is reassuring and balancing, yellow can stimulate and lift your spirits, and blue can stimulate thought and help you communicate.
🌍 Keep your setup eco-friendly. Don't buy stuff for your office that you don't need. If you need it, check the sourcing or get it second-hand. Turn off your electronics when you aren't using them. Consider offsetting your company's footprint.
✨ Set aside 5 minutes every day to keep your workspace clean, organized, and well-maintained.

Tip: If your niche has its own lingo, it may be an SEO opportunity. Consider getting quality traffic and backlinks by defining niche keywords and creating a glossary.

Thread 👇
You can find people who are interested in learning about your niche by writing definitions for niche terms. Some of these people may even be researching for an article, which could mean backlinks.
Head to a site like Ahrefs or SEMrush and look for terms where the SERP returns definitions. Even better, search for "what is" keywords. You might be surprised by the lack of quality competition.

Tip: Your social media followings are a huge asset, but they aren't always the easiest to build. Offer chat support via Instagram to grow your following.

@DASirur of Digital Actually started using Instagram for chat support on an e-commerce site and increased its Instagram following by nearly 10x. To get people heading to Instagram for support, they added a message in their Intercom chatbot offering a 15% discount for doing so.
Just like that, many of their website visitors became engaged followers. And according to Vishal, it boosted their customers' trust in the company too.

Tip: It's no surprise that showing potential customers how much you can save them will likely increase conversions. Consider listing the cost of not using your product as one of your pricing tiers.

Thread 👇
Price anchoring refers to establishing a price that prospective customers can use as a reference point. Teamflow does this in an interesting way.
They show the average cost of renting an office ($799/mo) as a pricing option right next to the price of using their virtual office software ($0-25/mo). When a potential customer compares the two and sees the potential savings, the software seems even more desirable.

Tip: High-quality links are gold — they give your page a boost on the SERP and improve your overall domain rating. Get solid links by offering scholarships for your course through universities.

Thread 👇
Colleges and universities tend to have very good domain ratings. And, as it turns out, these institutions often like to promote the free products that their students have access to.
So if you have a course that might be appropriate, consider giving access to schools as a free offering for their students. You might get some solid link juice. Plus, it's free promotion to people who will soon be in your industry.

Tip: While it can be benefical at launch, pay-what-you-want pricing often reduces conversions. But with a small tweak, sales can be increased substantially. Consider allowing customers to choose from a pre-determined list of prices.

Thread 👇
While studying pay-what-you-want pricing, researchers found that allowing customers to pick from three or four prices (as opposed to any price) actually boosted sales considerably.
In fact, sales went up so much in the studies that this pricing model was beneficial even when people were paying less for the products.
