Today the media & community waited for Chesa Boudin outside Fanly Chen’s store in Chinatown

She was attacked & pepper sprayed after stopping a shoplifter

Chesa was supposedly going to visit

Critics say he appears w/AAPIs for “photo ops” so I asked...

Fanly her thoughts: “I don’t care about him use me…I just want to do the right thing”

So we waited. Chesa didn’t show. Ppl f/DA’s office did met w/Fanly tho

They came out & Fanly said something different: she didn’t expect Boudin today.

Nobody f/the DA’s office who met w/Fanly today wanted to talk.

This is what I emailed Chesa and his communications person shortly after I left the store.

I have yet to receive a response.

The United Peace Collaborative were there today. Founder Leanna told me she very clearly was told by the store owner the DA was going to be there at 11am.

All of the media there today were baffled.

“Truly pathetic” Sources tell me charges were dropped in the case of this 75-year old woman who was dragged by her hair & assaulted in an attempted carjacking in the Richmond in March.

I wanted to know why & reached out to Rachel Marshall…

(1/4)
Here are our emails. (There are more but I can only post 4 at a time) & by now you get the gist of the back-and-forth.

Note: my information is indeed accurate. I reviewed my logs of what I said to the ADA back in March about blurring & they only refer to TV and website video. ImageImageImageImage
The Good Samaritan who saved the senior (punched thru her windshield to scare the suspects) said in part:

“I believe in restorative justice and I understand Chesa has a model but… his way of going about it is not working.” He later said “you lost a fan.”

As if hearing an 80-year old man cry out for help after getting knocked to the ground in San Leandro isn’t bad enough…

...the suspects are teens as young as 16 and you can hear one laughing loudly.

This comes as SLPD report a nearly 300-percent increase in crimes toward AAPI in 2020 vs 2019

The getaway car was seen less than 2 hours later in a strong-armed robbery. Several weeks ago— a rash of burglaries & carjackings by suspected minors

(2/3) #stopaapihate #aapi
SLPD can’t say for certain these are hate-crime/race-motivated they tell me the numbers don’t lie.

They’ve increased patrols & are working w/the DA b/c re-offending is a problem.

BTW: The 80-year old is OK but thinks his attack was hate-motivated.

Ben was a guard at a homeless facility where it happened.

He saw my story & ID’d Thompson right away (1/5)

#stopasianhate Image
Ben says if Thompson was beind bars & not on mental health diversion in 2020 — the double stabbing of 2 Asian seniors on Market this week would not have happened.

Mr. Thompson refused to show up at his arraignment today.

So I asked Chesa at court...

#stopaapihate #aapi
…the DA why he blamed the judge for Mr. Thompson’s mental health diversion when as district attorney he could have objected to it.

He side-stepped my question & gave a definition of what mental health diversion is. (3/5)

𝗧𝗥𝗜𝗚𝗚𝗘𝗥 𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚: after much discussion and debate, I am choosing to show you video I obtained from sources of the two Asian senior women were stabbed along Market Street this week.

This was not an easy decision.

Here is why:

(1/5) #StopAsianHate #AAPI
There always has to be a purpose to what is shown. To show context.

In this case my team and I felt like it was important to see what happened so you understand how serious this crime is— as you learn the previous criminal history of the suspect.

#StopAAPIHate #AAPIHM
(2/5)
Takeaways f/the video:

You can see how calmly the suspect approaches

There are others in the area but the women are the clear targets.

A bystander rushed to help. More came shortly after.

I spoke to one yesterday who cradled Mrs. Fong while SFPD arrived (3/5) #AAPI

The grandson of one of the two women in their 60’s and 80’s— stabbed on Market yesterday gave me permission to share this photo.

She was stabbed in the arm and chest. I learned the other woman was stabbed in the back & has broken bones.

The grandson and his family have requested privacy during this time. I promise them I would learn as much as I could about their suspected perpetrator and his record.

More soon. (2/2)

Here is the only real @gofundme the Eng family has set up.

Grandson Andrew says he doesn’t like asking for a handout but that his grandma really needs the support. I told him the community wants to help ❤️ bit.ly/3enyEBv

BREAKING: two Asian women stabbed on Market in SF. One has serious bleeding — the other still has knife in her arm.

#StopAsianHate #StopAAPIHate
Sources tell me this happened at the 4th/Stockton intersection. Suspect not yet in custody.
A man is in custody. He appears to have a thin build and some say he lives/hangs around the area. That’s the only suspect description I can share right now.

@KateABC7 working story tonight for @abc7newsbayarea & learned the suspect was apprehended along Eddy.
