My #StopAsianHate take for the night is that I don't want "visibility" or "representation" I want fucking power, the power necessary to crush the racist system that rips us from our loved ones and stabs us in the street. If we want to live free

Moreover, ICE must be destroyed
of fear, if we want to ensure that no Asian will ever again be buried by an American bullet, we have to tear the whole system apart brick by brick. ICE, the police, the prisons, the boarder, the settler state, the dictatorship of the capitalist

Moreover, ICE must be destroyed
workplace and the capitalists deathgrip on production, all of it must be destroyed. And the only way to do that is with power. Real power, not the faux-power of political office, the ability to grind the gears of capitalism to a screeching halt,

Moreover, ICE must be destroyed

#APAHM Thread: #StopAsianHate is meaningless until we acknowledge white men as the architects of anti-Asian racism, & the blueprints they use to divide the Asian community & sabotage progress. 1/

(Don't repost my art. RTs appreciated. Support my work๐Ÿ‘‰patreon.com/joshualuna)
Understanding anti-Asian racism means connecting its history in the US with its history in Asia, instead of treating them separately. US imperialism, war, & colonization abroad directly informs the racism AsAms experience because the goal is the same: divide, conquer, & kill. 2/
White men used war to split Korea & Vietnam in two, & divide AsAms the same way. One blueprint of the U.S.'s domestic anti-Asian strategy is the Mixed Marriage Policy of 1942-1943. Implemented during Japanese Internment, it gave certain Asians special exemptions to leave camp. 3/

If you refuse to recognize or don't know that Hindus have experienced multiple genocides across generations, how does this distort your perception of who Hindu Americans are and what we hold? How can you begin to fathom how insidiously anti-Hindu hate manifests?
Hindu Americans are called hateful and divisive for speaking about our persecution. We are told to "go back to India".

Are we not as capable of intergenerational trauma, especially when our ancestral pain is constantly gaslit by those who silence us in the name of "justice"?
There is a literal witch hunt against Hindus in the US now. Sanatana Dharma is the largest pre-Abrahamic knowledge tradition left in the world, and "as a Hindu" Americans are endorsing this witch hunt in the name of justice.

Whose justice?

Celebrating my Asian heritage feels more important than ever given the alarming rise in Asian hate crimes.

Hereโ€™s a ๐Ÿงต to celebrate my ancestry, the historical racist context within Canadaโ€™s immigration policies & resources to #StopAsianHate

Between 1880 - 1885 approx 15,000 Chinese workers were recruited to BC to complete the last leg of the Canadian Pacific Railway. When the railroad was complete, white workers, who feared for their jobs, lobbied the government to take action to limit Chinese immigration.
In 1885, the Canadian Parliament passed The Chinese Immigration Act (aka Chinese Exclusion Act).

Not only did it severely limit and almost halt Chinese immigration, but it also required all Chinese entering Canada to pay a Head Tax of $50. By 1903, the head tax was $500.

Today the media & community waited for Chesa Boudin outside Fanly Chenโ€™s store in Chinatown

She was attacked & pepper sprayed after stopping a shoplifter

Chesa was supposedly going to visit

Critics say he appears w/AAPIs for โ€œphoto opsโ€ so I asked...

In 1874, J.L. Chow opened Chow Chow Laundry at 904 Elm Street. He was the first person of Asian descent to be listed in the city directories. By 1891, 41/49 laundries in Dallas were Chinese-owned.
Fueled by decades of bigotry, a propaganda campaign was initiated against Chinese laundries by White competitors.

#StopAsianHate? Itโ€™s our duty to dispel myth and challenge propaganda that aims to scapegoat Black people as racist hate-crime-merchants/anti-Asian. There has been some egregious anti-Black racism from Asians in modern history. A thread:
1. Gandhi was an anti-Black racist.

May, 1906
โ€œIt was a gross injustice to seek to place Indians in the same class as the Kaffirs.โ€
(Vol. V. The Collected Works of Mahatma Gandhi (Electronic Book) (Vol. 98 volumes). New Delhi: Publications Division Government of India, p. 226)
2. The Black Panthers were infiltrated by many non-Black people. One prominent FBI informant was named Richard Aoki. google.com/amp/s/revealneโ€ฆ Image

This comes as SLPD report a nearly 300-percent increase in crimes toward AAPI in 2020 vs 2019

The getaway car was seen less than 2 hours later in a strong-armed robbery. Several weeks agoโ€” a rash of burglaries & carjackings by suspected minors

(2/3) #stopaapihate #aapi
SLPD canโ€™t say for certain these are hate-crime/race-motivated they tell me the numbers donโ€™t lie.

Theyโ€™ve increased patrols & are working w/the DA b/c re-offending is a problem.

BTW: The 80-year old is OK but thinks his attack was hate-motivated.

๐Ÿšจ NEW: A @go_laaunch report reveals that toxic stereotypes still shape Americansโ€™ perceptions of Asians in the U.S., and that large groups of Americans are unaware of increased anti-Asian attacks. #StopAsianHate

More from @shawnarchen for @TheYappie: theyappie.com/quarter-of-whiโ€ฆ
@go_laaunch @shawnarchen @TheYappie The report basically shows that the harmful model minority myth and perpetual foreigner stereotypes are alive and well in the U.S.

And it turns out that some people don't think anti-Asian racism is a problem that should be addressed.

theyappie.com/quarter-of-whiโ€ฆ
@go_laaunch @shawnarchen @TheYappie 37% of white respondents, 46% of Republicans, and 22% of Democrats say they aren't aware of the increase in anti-Asian hate crimes.

26% of Republicans believe that the term โ€œChina Virusโ€ is appropriate to describe COVID-19, compared to 6% of Democrats.

A #vanre thread:

Thereโ€™s a lot of revisionist history going on since @Dave_Eby made a statement on the study @Ayan604 did on non-anglicized Chinese names in Dunbar.

That study was one of the reasons @RWong1975, @razamirza and others like me got involved w/ @HALT_YVR.

1/
People seem to forget that in 2015 when @Ayan604 published his study, the BC Liberals had deliberately not collected data on where homebuyers were coming from.

This data simply didnโ€™t exist, yet there were already rumblings about what was causing housing unaffordability.

2/
Meanwhile, the Urban Development Institute was welcoming mainland Chinese buyers with open arms. There was a profit to be made and @christyclarkbcโ€™s campaign financing chair Condo King Bob Rennie would not be denied.

This is the x-ray of the knife in 85-year old Mrs. Fongโ€™s body.
โ €
Like my previous Tweet of the video showing the stabbingโ€” I sat on this photo & debated if showing it provided value & context. Here is why my team & I believe it can.

(1/3) #StopAAPIHate #AAPI
The knife impaled Ms. Fongโ€™s body with such force the handle broke off and it was left there for emergency crews to remove. This is why she has the punctured lung.

This was not some pocket knife like in this stabbing I covered recently. The blade is bigger than Mrs. Fongโ€™s arm.
Mrs. Fongโ€™s grandson and I have been talking & I showed him this x-ray & explained the decision to share it.

He said in part โ€œ...we need to put as much pressure as possible to get this guy prosecuted.โ€

This photo is part of the pressure.

There always has to be a purpose to what is shown. To show context.

A Baltimore man was arrested after he repeatedly struck two Asian women, ages 66 & 67, in the head w/a cinder block. The brutal attack follows a string of random violent assaults on Asian Americans by black people in the past 2 weeks. #StopAsianHate foxbaltimore.com/news/local/arrโ€ฆ
Here is part of the extremely graphic surveillance video showing the black male suspect (named as Daryl Doles) beating two east Asian women in a Baltimore shop on 2 May using a cinder block. Another customer in the store watches & calmly walks away.
To be clear, #BLM activists like @BreeNewsome believe what happened in this video is the ideal situation. According to her, people have been fighting for "eons" & calling police on a violent person who happens to be black should never happen.

Carl as advocated tirelessly for Asian Americans as theyโ€™ve been attacked in Oakland.

He said he mustered up all his strength after being called a slur, stood up after getting hit in the back of the head & took a picture of the man he says attacked him

He stuck around at the scene of 8th + Broadway and was able to ID the suspected attacker about 25 mins later. OPD was able to make an arrest.

Carl says he is going to monitor his head closely & is glad it was him who was attackedโ€” not a senior or child.
