I went to #PSBB and was part of the Commerce batch of 2007. The allegations in question are appalling and supposed inaction of the management makes things worse. As an alumni, and a member of the batch of 2007, I stand with the students who have gone through such horrible times.
In addition, there has been this statement on behalf of the 2007 batch doing the rounds on social media. This is NOT representative of the entire batch. Multiple attempts to trace the origin of this statement have failed.
If there are some people who actually believe in what is being spouted in the statement, atleast have the courage to put your name on it, instead of reflecting it upon 200 odd batchmates! #psbbschool#childabuse#schools#safespaces#ChildProtection
Well, this exploded. In light of #PSBB and similar incidents of #childabuse that is being brought to light in multiple schools across the city, it is our duty to ensure the kids have a #safespace to go to and learn.
A place which shapes them to become architects of our and their own future. It’s their right and they can’t be denied it. While there is a legal system in place including #POSCO, the need of the hour is robust monitoring and implementation of that system.
As a sports lawyer, a prominent example that comes to mind is of @EnglandFootball where an independent review held #FA guilty of not protecting children against #childabuse within the youth football system. This was triggered by experience of multiple players coming to light.
In our case and #chennai schools in particular, we have the tipping point, and as a society, we need to act upon it. We can’t let institutional failings affect the safety and security of the next generation of school goers.
What we need are robust mechanisms to be implemented. A system where a child can walk in and speak about a teacher or any member of the staff without fear of retribution. An independent grievance redressal body which avoids the conflict of institution.
We cannot just pour old wine into a new bottle but ensure there is continuous education of all involved. We need all stakeholders on board most importantly the Governments, Educational Boards, Parents, Staff and Student Representatives.
