Just got the official email that vaccines will not be required on campus *and* instructors cannot require masks in their classrooms. So, there it is. Fuck disabled people & people with kids I guess. No word yet on if/how faculty can request to teach online. Sigh.
Masks are required indoors for unvaccinated people but we aren’t allowed to ask people if their vaccinated. Basically we’re just supposed to wear masks ourselves if we’re concerned. I know vaccines work well but I am still so worried about returning to the classroom like this.
Wrong they’re. Damn. Oh well. You get the point. I’m upset. This is upsetting. I want to be back in the classroom but this does not feel safe to me.
I want to add that I mention faculty but staff & students should have robust online options if they or their loved ones cannot be vaccinated or they simply do not feel safe indoors w/ unvaccinated ppl who may or may not be masked. We must fight for our entire campus community.

I impulse bought another ($30) hammock purely because it looks like a vagina. Vagina hammock aka VagHam is officially part of the Femme Oasis (my balcony).
I now have 4 hammocks & 2 hammock stands. It is, perhaps, one too many hammocks. But only one. 😜
Until last year I genuinely thought I was too fat for a hammock. Turns out many hammocks have weight capacities of 500-800 pounds. And they are more comfy for my body than sitting in most outdoor chairs. I just had to learn the art of getting in & out. Now I’m hooked forever.
Wow. Those AirBnB hosts are now claiming $981 in damages against me.
Details: they took photos of every minor mark on the walls, mud on entry rug, dirt on a ledge, dirt on oven knob, etc. to claim $225 of professional cleaning to an LLC that has the exact same address as the hosts’ real estate company. The stay already included $63 cleaning fee.
They are claiming we left a 12 inch scratch on the floor that will cost $475 to repair. Also claiming we did $281 in damage to cheap beds which were creaky when used so I assume already weak/damaged but broken when 2 fat people slept in them.
It’s so important to emphasize that rarely do white people recognize or admit that they are being racist. It’s antithetical to how they perceive themselves. This is because white folks are taught to understand themselves as neutral and to define racism as blatant hate.
Rarely are white folks able to comprehend or be self-reflective about the ways white supremacy shapes their entire lives & behaviors. Yet people of color feel the racial bias, assumptions & projections in our interactions with white people daily.
For most white folks racism is unconscious, deeply entrenched, & unrecognizable in its various manifestations in part bc of the way the law has set up hate crimes to require clear evidence of racial hatred. White people think if they aren’t calling you slurs, they aren’t racist.
I think it’s very adorable when students send me e-mails introducing themselves at the start of the semester. It’s 1000% unnecessary but that’s way it’s so sweet to me. Their enthusiasm gets me more excited for the semester.
I’m teaching our 101 intro class this term & even though it’s one of the more challenging classes to teach logistically with 240 students, it’s also one of my favorites—a chance to influence so many young folks & introduce them to basic feminist concepts.
I remember being a freshman taking Women’s Studies 101 at @miamiuniversity. I was a pretty sheltered young adult raised Catholic in small town Kentucky. That class blew my fucking mind. I found out there were words for so many things I had experienced & felt as a young woman.
It has been over 280 days since the Wisconsin GOP tried to pass any legislation & this is what they offer. Horrific. Shameful. An absolute fucking disgrace. Wisconsinites ought to let them know that we’re tired of them playing politic games w/ our lives. apnews.com/article/public…
Last semester I watched student after student deal with exposure in their living spaces, quarantine housing, illness and the illness of their loved ones. Students who stopped attending classes to care for sick family members or younger siblings while parents were ill.
The idea that anyone, but particularly those who are supposed to be the leaders of this state, doing something to make the pandemic more dangerous, not less, is infuriating. Everyone should be angry about this no matter your political affiliation.
This is a #thread speaking directly to all 27 state senators who proposed a resolution to end the mask mandate & the declared public health emergency of #COVID19 in #Wisconsin
Fuck you Steve Nass for trying to end the mask mandate.
