Being productive ≠ Looking productive

Being busy all day can look very productive but can be insanely unproductive.

In contrast, internet rabbit holes can look very unproductive but can be insanely productive.
Knowing this doesn't seem to prevent it either

It STILL looks productive or unproductive - so your mind believes it is.

😅

The only way out of the illusion might be to ignore it and focus solely on historical ROI - rather than how it looks.
It's a weird thought that your brain can lie to itself.

It's a weirder thought that your brain knows it can lie to itself.
It's an even more fucking weirder thought that the above thought is your brain acknowledging it knows it lies to itself.

THREAD: The top 0.1% of marketing mental models.

Compressing a 6-year career into the best 8 ideas:
1. Contrast Is A Drug

• Rolls Royce stopped exhibiting at car shows

• They started exhibiting at private aircraft shows

• "If you've been looking at jets all afternoon, a £300,000 car is an impulse buy. It's like putting the sweets next to the counter" - @rorysutherland
2. The Best Content Involves A Red Pill

• "If you want to build a good podcast, following, or blog - you've gotta create your red pill"

• Hand society something they're not hearing anywhere

• Society says blue pill. Your content says red pill.

At the top of Maslow's Hierarchy, there's a hidden door on the roof which reveals a new level:

• Life extension. For yourself and everybody else.

So sad watching people age and die of diseases.
Irony:

The hidden door at the top takes you back to the bottom of the pyramid.

Survival.
Whoever makes breakthroughs in the life extension space will be a trillionaire.

Warren Buffett would give all his money for 10 more healthy years.

But the wins are greater than financial... It's seeing loved ones live longer.

THREAD: The top 0.1% of ideas I’ve stumbled upon on the internet.

The rabbit holes (without the distractions).
1. Directional Arrows of Progress

“Study the undeniable arrows of progress.” - @wolfejosh

• The future is kinda like a crossword puzzle.

• Nobody is going to spell out for you - but clues exist.

• Wolfe uses the trend line of history as clues for the future.
• E.g. Look at this directional arrow of progress

• Every time the computer gets more powerful, smaller and closer to our bodies.

• Wolfe used this trend line to bet that Brain-Machine interfaces will be huge and started funding companies in the space.

Paradoxical truths:

• The best marketing never looks like marketing.

• The best salesperson never looks like a salesperson.
Tough to understand. Even tougher to apply.
This is what the world's best salesman looks like.

He looks like an anti salesman.

Feature not a bug.

Francis Ngannou is fighting for the UFC heavyweight belt this weekend.

His life story >>> Any movie that exists

It's criminally overlooked.

THREAD...
• Francis is often described as the most physically gifted athlete the UFC has ever seen.

• However, I would argue as impressive as athleticism is... His brain is better.

• Francis' story has been criminally underlooked by the media. It deserves to be a Hollywood film.
• His story isn't the cliche "work hard, hustle and believe bro".

• Francis' story is possibly the most superhuman high agency, grit and out the box thinking - ever.

• I've been down internet rabbit holes of his story since hearing it on @joerogan

• Steve Jobs read a study that measured the locomotion efficiency of species on earth

• The condor used the least energy to move a Kilometer

• The highlight of mother nature - human beings - came 3rd of the way down the list
• However, a human being on a bicycle blew every other species away - including the Condor.

• "A computer is the most remarkable tool we've ever come up with. And it's the equivalent of a bicycle for our minds." - Steve Jobs
