I am a playwright & stage director,

Friends School Kamusinga, with the winning play "Hamlet"

A play about HIV (U=U), Set in the human body.

Hamlet - White blood cell
Ophelia- Red Blood cell
Gertrude- DNA
Claudius - HIV

Let me tell you the story of these amazing boys.

Friends School Kamusing is a top-cream national boys high school in Western Kenya, - and Kenya.

It registers excellent results and sends hundreds to the university.

For this reason, it admits bright students.

However, something is missing in these boys.

Despite having good grades, they lack the much required soft skills.

- Public speaking.
-Problem-solving skills.
- EQ.
and the rest.

This is common in schools. Students finish with good grades but poor social skills.

That's why the Friends school principal looked for me.

Drama club in schools is the best place to mould boys into whole rounded MEN with competent core skills that will boost their academic attainment.

Be cautious though because most drama clubs are infiltrated by criminals and sex perverts who mess with students.

So, I took the challenge.

The drama club in FSK was dead having previously been associated with deviants and bad students.

To attract creative and bright students, I wrote a BIOLOGY play (The Hamlet).

I also had to convince their parents to believe in my mentorship.

The Hamlet is set in the body of Tommy, a Form 2 student who is living with HIV.

He is facing stigma at school and therefore he has refused to swallow his daily pill.

His father is a Doctor and his mother is a teacher.

I took this as a project. Brokedown goals & deliverables together with the boys and gave each boy a task.

The results were amazing.

Not only did they learn about HIV but they scooped top awards from the lowest level to the national level.

This project changed their lives.

Let me start with Claudius (the virus)

Form 4, he is also epileptic.

A good actor, we were worried that he can fit in the middle of the play. He never.

He was poor in class (a D student), rebellious, but this play changed him.

He got a C+. (Parents had lost hope in him)

Hamlet, (His name is Hamza)

Form 3, -

Was named best actor, got JKF books and chemistry periodicals

After this performance, he got a scholarship to USA for a 1 year education exchange program.

He is now the top student and current school captain, he will get an A.

Brutus (mycobacterium/opportunistic organism)

Ophelia (Red blood cells)

Gertrude (DNA)

These three are currently the top students in their streams.

This play raised their confidence and self-esteem.

I can go on and on but the icing on the cake is about Dr Capsule. - (Tommy's dad.)

This boy got a straight A

Then, Tommy's mom got an A- (minus)

There are also two boys not mentioned one was a vocalist and the other was a sound engineer. A - (minus) & B + respectively.

As a parent,

Allow your son to expend and explore his creative instincts.

This is how he will unlock his masculine potential.

For a boy to become a man, he must travel through the journey of exploring his archetype.

Co-curriculum (activities) supports CORE CURRICULUM (class work),

They are not a waste of time.

In fact, they train the student to budget and manage his time well.

Today, we have a CBC curriculum. Encourage your sons to explore their talents and skills.
