This is rad.
I'm glad for Darnella and I'm glad for this recognition of citizen reporting, which is more important than ever and needs to be aggressively recognized as valid.

I'm not wild about the Pulitzers, but Darnella was responsible for undoubtedly the single most important piece of reporting last year. Mainstream press recognition of the validity of that sort of work will help to report other independent citizen reporters who risk their lives.
Folks need to recognize that a huge ongoing debate was whether or not regular citizens with cameras counted as "press" or could be violently dispersed and penalized for recording the crimes of law enforcement.

This move has the potential to make an impact in that debate.

lot of good criticisms about u.s. militarism and thoughtless worship of the military-industrial complex but

it is good and right to remember all the men and women, American, Russian, Chinese, British, French, etc, who gave everything to stop the Nazis.
I remember watching Band of Brothers with my grandpa. Violence in movies never bothered him. But he couldn't get past the scene where all the men were on the docks getting ready to head across the Atlantic.

It reminded him of the last time he saw many of his friends.
His brother, my Uncle Tillman, fought at Bastogne, where he took shrapnel to the skull. He survived. But he never really came back. The rest of his life was marred by mood swings and illness and untreated trauma. He died fairly young.

this is a nice warning for how a large chunk of middle class America will react to the increasing calamities of the future. At the first warning, buy more than you need of what everyone else needs too.
Again my advice is to figure out how to get a 1-2 month supply of dried food, a weeks worth of water and extra purification tablets/ filters, a solid first aid kit and one tank worth of extra gas. Make sure you rotate that frequently as it expires.

That's a reasonable basic kit.
If you buy when there isn't a disaster and a resource crunch, you can avoid participating in a resource crunch. It just requires thinking ahead.

Keep an extra case of toilet paper in your garage and don't touch it. Buy a can or two of shitty coffee just in case.

This video has been going around as evidence of what really happened, and it is horrifying. We see an Israeli driver accelerate directly into a Palestinian, before being rushed by bystanders. But this clip does not show how the incident began.

If you spend a little time digging, you’ll see this longer :30 second clip being posted, generally by Israelis claiming it shows a Jewish driver being attacked and “narrowly escaping”. However this video is incomplete too.

A fascinating breakdown of how @dannoyes got played by a fascist. He did what appears to be zero work to back up his source's claims or investigate that person's background.
When @jason_a_w and I reported on leaked chats from Patriot Coalition, we didn't just take an activist's word for it. We got access to the live chat room and verified that our info was legit in real time.

We cross referenced claims made by right wing vigilantes with OS evidence.
By the time we wrote the article linked below, we knew that not only were these far right militia folks making violent threats, they had carried out real world violence on several occasions. We identified many of them before publication.

the thing that is actually incredible about the space race and both the Russian and U.S. space programs is how FEW people died. I don't expect the same from corporate run, exploitation driven space races.
i've been watching 'for all mankind' lately, an alt-history about the USSR reaching the moon first. They have the first cosmonaut give a propagandistic speech about marxist-leninist civilization. and tbh, I don't believe that would've happened.
the U.S. was drowning in propaganda just like the USSR, and the stakes were high. But Neil Armstrong didn't waste that moment on politics or propaganda. I don't think any person capable of being first on the moon would've let that happen.
