Today, we’re launching Deadline for Democracy, a movement-wide, all-hands-on-deck campaign to get the For the People Act passed in July. The next six weeks will make or break this bill. Our Senate allies are asking for a massive show of grassroots force: deadlinefordemocracy.org
So here's what we're planning: a nationwide campaign called Deadline for Democracy during the July 4th Recess, which starts on June 28th (two weeks from today).

June and July are absolutely crucial for getting the For the People Act through the Senate.
Elections experts advise us that if the For the People Act is going to take effect in time to impact the midterms, it needs to pass by this fall. We also know that when the House leaves for the long summer recess at the end of July, they won’t fully return until September 20th.
That's why it’s time to dig deep and plan events that will attract the attention of activists, local media, and of course, your senators. We’re all in this together, and we’re all going to do our part: deadlinefordemocracy.org

Alright, let's talk about the op-ed. And let's talk about what's next. /THREAD A screenshot of a photo with alt-text that reads: profile vi
We've heard from SO MANY Indivisibles today with messages ranging from anger and despair to a renewed commitment to fight like hell for voting rights and the #ForThePeopleAct. We heard you. Now, we need you to hear us — because this fight is FAR from over.
First, @Sen_JoeManchin's op-ed is riddled with historical falsehoods and bizarre, antiquated political analysis. We don't need to get into that, but @RepMondaire did a perfect thread on it ICYMI.

We're in a pandemic and an economic crisis - workers deserve the compassion, support, & protection of their government.

President Biden should not pressure workers to take potentially unsafe jobs, or fuel the push from corporations to cut unemployment insurance for millions.
The cost of child care is simply out of reach for millions of families, and millions of women who disproportionately bear child care responsibilities have been forced out of the labor force.

Instead of restricting UI, the government should make child care universal.
The Biden administration has started creating a federal workplace safety standard for COVID-19, but it isn't in effect yet and many workplaces still put workers in extremely risky situations.

Instead of restricting UI, the government should make workplaces safe.

The U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021 is proof of the power of the organizers & activists who helped deliver this moment.

This is the first time a proposal doesn't start by increasing $$ for the deportation system or requiring more immigrants be detained in exchange for citizenship.
While this is a moment to celebrate it is also a reminder to keep pushing forward. We know that immigrants are being deported and need relief right now, and that even this bill leaves some people out.
We need @POTUS and Democrats in Congress to act quickly to deliver a pathway to citizenship for ALL undocumented immigrants through any means possible, including the next COVID-19 relief & recovery packages.

Today is the day! In three hours @JoeBiden will officially become the 46th president of the United States and @KamalaHarris officially becomes the first woman, first Black, and first Asian American vice president! It's a new era for our country. #InaugurationDay #Inauguration2021
This historic day is the culmination of over four years of grueling work for many of us, so enjoy it. You made this possible by standing up and continuing to fight for our democracy during some of its darkest moments. We hope you're as proud of all your accomplishments as we are.
The past four-plus years have been traumatic for most of our country. Unfortunately, we know it will take more than a new president to stop the pandemic, emboldened white supremacists, a broken democracy or many of the other crises that President-elect Biden inherits. It's on us.

H.R. 1 (the For the People Act) has been introduced in the House. This would be a massive step toward finally, for the first time, establishing a democracy in this country that works by, for, and of the people. 🧵
The For the People Act is a monumental package of democracy reforms that will center voters by dismantling the system that allows big money to call the shots in politics.

Our democracy has been rigged in favor of white people and the wealthy from the jump.
And huge corporations and special interests have only entrenched their power over the years, paying big money to influence the outcome of our elections and support legislators who will protect them from accountability.
