🧵: I am tired of being asked about homelessness as a blight for people who have homes to experience and not as a life and death problem for people experiencing homelessness.
Too often, electeds use a very limited lens when discussing how to solve homelessness. Rarely do they address the less visible drivers: housings costs & wages.
We have the resources and ability to end homelessness in NYC. We must do so. Now.
Here are some highlights from my plan to end homelessness w/ a housing-first approach:
✅ Housing first in non-congregate settings 4 all
✅ increase investments in permanent supportive housing
Busy last week before Election Day, so you already know we had to take a quick break & visit @BuunniCoffee- an amazing, immigrant-owned small biz w/ great coffee, drinks, & delicious Ethiopian treats. (1/4)
With pastries made from another woman-owned biz, plants from a neighborhood florist, & pieces from local artists, @BuunniCoffee is the place to be.
Thank you Sarina & @BuunniCoffee for creating such a welcoming community space!
P.S. they have a lot of GF & vegan options! (2/4)
I want to do my work from here on out (w/ the Silk Road wrap and amazing coffee in hand).
I cannot wait to continue working with amazing small business owners like Sarina as MBP. They should be at the heart of our city’s recovery. (3/4)
🧵: Honored to have participated in the @mocdcharlem forum yesterday. We talked education, home ownership, and more. Below are some highlights! (1/4)
It’s important that the next Manhattan Borough President work w/ incredible orgs like the @aqe_ny to ensure that funding (from every level of govt) goes to the kids & schools who need the most assistance. (2/4)
Also, the Manhattan Borough President must be committed to both desegregation & transparency in our middle + high schools, so that all of our kids have access to the best education possible. (3/4)
🧵Deeply honored to be on the cover of @CityAndStateNY's Albany Power 100 issue. I would not have found the courage to come forward had it not been for #MeToo & the bold women who came before me, & I am so grateful to the women who followed & validated me. bit.ly/3gb7rSg
I was not seeking power when I came forward; in fact, it felt like the most self-destructive thing I could do. But then the most amazing thing happened. Other women joined me in sharing their stories, and together we challenged the most powerful man in the state.
.@NYGovCuomo's abuses are not limited to women. He abused his position by hiding nursing home deaths, securing VIP COVID tests, using his govt. staff to write him a $5 million book on the backs of COVID victims & linking vaccine access to loyalty from county execs.
🧵: Here are some highlights from the Manhattan Borough President @NY1 debate! (1/5)
Things I’ve Done:
✅ Led job creation & recovery efforts as economic secretary for NYS
Things I’ll Do:
✅ Est. a one-stop-shop in the MBP office focused on small biz recovery
✅ Increase livability by investing in protecting & expanding our public spaces (2/5)
I want to highlight the leadership shown by @UWSOpenHearts and @homeless_hero when it comes to finding solutions for the men at the Lucerne. It should be a model for this city. (3/5)
PRESS RELEASE: Lindsey Boylan Issues Statement of Support for Jean Kim. Full Release Here >>> mailchi.mp/7fc17c8ed6cf/0…
For more inclusive reading, the text of my statement is threaded here:
I believe Jean Kim and applaud her courage in coming forward today. Women are not the tools of selfish, powerful men. And we will remake the culture so that is clear. (2/5)
New York Democrats must build a better world from our ranks and hold our own accountable. That means Scott Stringer must resign as comptroller and drop out of the race for New York City mayor. (3/5)
#DonutTour🧵: I am so excited to be out in the community & eating some incredible treats 🍩 along the way.
Today, we stopped by Grace St. Coffee & Dessert (thank you Serena Wang!), learned more about their small biz, and got to eat some great donuts & desserts. Check them out!
Here are some pics from #DonutTour Day 1! (Grace Street Coffee & Dessert)
We are on the second day of our Manhattan #DonutTour. Today we stopped by a favorite of mine, Alimama Tea in Chinatown to have some incredible mochi donuts and milk tea boba 🍩🧋.
