I was killed by a wind turbine just the other day...
Third time this month...
I called the police, but all they said was, "Sir, have you been drinking?"
I said, "No, officer, of course not. Now, what are you going to do about all these windmills that keep killing me, over and over? I pay my taxes. The least you can do is stop them from killing me every other day."

Is the EU finally going to get serious next week about the long-running assaults on human rights and democracy in Hungary & Poland?
EU members meeting in the General Affairs Council session on 22 June will discuss the situations in Poland & Hungary under Article 7, the EU treaty mechanism to hold accountable governments whose actions threaten the bloc’s rule of law, human rights and democratic principles.
The EU must put Hungary & Poland on notice that there is no place for attacks on the rule of law in the EU & step up scrutiny of their rights-abusiving policies, say:

@amnesty;
@hrw;
@ICJ_org;
@fidh_en;
@osfEUpolicy;
@RSF_en.

The "right balance" between demonising a minority and not demonising them?

The "right balance" between protecting #LGBT people from violence & discrimination and not protecting them?

Seriously, @EU_Commission?

Your failure to unequivocally defend human rights is appalling.
What @EU_Commission should say:

Hungary's new law is another assault by the ruling party on the EU's fundamental values of democracy & human rights. The Commission will use every political & institutional tool available to defend the rights of all Hungarians & all EU citizens.
Sadly, the @EU_Commission won't say that, because they refuse to take their responsibilities seriously.

They gave up on human rights and let the EU cease being a club of exclusively democracies.

I guess they now seek the "right balance" between democracy and authoritarianism.

Her employer made romantic overtures toward her.

He was married, and she was not interested.

One day he bought her a clock as a gift...
She put the clock in her bedroom but later moved it to a different spot in the room.

Her boss - after she moved the clock - commented that if she did not want it, he would take it back.

She found that strange, so she googled it and found it was a special kind of clock...
The clock was a spycam.

It had been streaming footage of the inside her bedroom to her boss’s cell phone 24 hours a day for a month or more.

When she confronted him, he asked: “Is that the thing you stayed up all night to google?”

He had been watching, even as she searched.

This case in #Uzbekistan is as tragic & sad as it is absurd.

#KadyrYusupov, a retired diplomat, was condemned to years in prison on completely bogus charges. He's been tortured, he's been denied his medicines, and his family has been harassed.

He should be freed at once.
Here's #KadyrYusupov with his family in Vienna, 2008, during a stint as head of Uzbekistan's mission to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

Good to see the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention call on #Uzbekistan's authorities to release #KadyrYusupov immediately and provide him with adequate compensation.

NGOs say the same: iphronline.org/uzbekistan-un-…

Time for key governments to step up:

Bosnian Serb wartime military commander Ratko Mladić will serve life in prison for genocide, war crimes & crimes against humanity.

The ruling has special significance for many victims and survivors who sought justice…
This marks the completion of the Yugoslav tribunal’s mandate to try some of those most responsible for war crimes perpetrated in the 1991-2001 Balkan wars.

But the tribunal’s verdicts have yet to pierce the deep layers of denial that persist in the region.
Flags, banners & murals praising genocidaire Mladić were seen in Serbian and Republika Srpska cities such as Trebinje, Banja Luka, Belgrade, and earlier this year in Foča.

Bosnian Serb tripartite presidency member Milorad Dodik openly engages in genocide denial.

#G7 on vaccines:

➡️ They wanted to pledge 1 billion doses by the end of next year.

➡️ They failed, pledging only 870 million.

💥 The world needs at least 11 BILLION.

The good news is that 2 of the 7 now understand that wider production is needed.

politico.eu/article/europe…
Everyone knows the current problem of vaccine scarcity is due to insufficient production.

The ideological hardliners against boosting production globally are now the European Commission, which seems to listen to Germany more than any other EU Member State.

And yes, ideology.
While the EU has finally backed down and agreed to allow text-based negotiations proceed on the #TRIPSwaiver proposal, the European Commission remains opposed to the proposal, which would relax patent rules to expand vaccine production globally.
