2) The rise coincides with the increase in the #DeltaVariant - from 10% over a week ago to 31% over the weekend. A tripling in one week!

11) Seriously- not joking on the “fleeting” short exposure. Sydney 🇦🇺 @NSWHealth epidemiologists tracked it down… they had genome sequencing to match. And they had camera footage too.

14) this fast transmission of #DeltaVariant is not just anecdotal— @WHO study confirms that Delta is the fastest transmission variant to date — by leaps and bounds faster than any recorded so far. This is why we epidemiologists are worried as hell.
15) this is why many of us are so upset that it took the CDC a full month delay to declare #DeltaVariant a higher risk VARIANT OF CONCERN just last week — a full month after WHO declared it a VOC and 3 weeks after UK 🇬🇧 declared it a VOC. The data was crystal clear for weeks!
16) #DeltaVariant has doubled-tripled in just 1 week. Let that sink in. Now what are you going to do about it? Tell a friend or neighbor to vaccinate please. ASAP. The window is closing!

19) Problem is many states have very low levels of “fully vaccinated”, especially the redder conservative Trump-voting states.

Note: J&J is considered “fully vaccinated” but it’s technically only 1 dose and we don’t know J&J 1 dose versus #DeltaVariant

20) this is not your normal COVID— #DeltaVariant is extremely aggressive. Extremely. We know from UK it is also much more severe than any other variant.
21) #DeltaVariant yields much lower vaccine efficacy—especially for 1 dose. But it can be compounded by elderly age and other risk factors. We need everyone 2x vaccinated but also wear masks to protect the elderly and vulnerable even if vaxxed. See video.

Brazil and Russia seeing fresh waves of cases. Brazil counted a record number of new cases of #COVID19 on Thursday, while Russia, with high #DeltaVariant cases, saw its highest tally since late January. Both only 10-11% fully vaccinated.
