In a disturbing development, Vismaya Nair, a 24-year-old woman from Kerala, died by alleged suicide on Monday, following which her husband has been arrested for harassing her over dowry. She was a student of Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery. newsbytesapp.com/news/india/ker…
Nair was found unconscious at her in-laws' house on Monday, after which she was rushed to a hospital but declared brought dead by the doctors. Her family has alleged she was assaulted for dowry on multiple occasions.
Nair got married to Kiran Kumar, an assistant motor vehicle inspector with the transport department, in May 2020. Nair's father said that at the time of the wedding, they had given Kumar 100 sovereigns of gold, 1.20 acres of land, and a new Toyota Yaris car (costing Rs. 11 lakh).
Just two days before her death, Nair had sent messages to her cousin, talking about the alleged torture she suffered at the hands of her husband. She also reportedly shared pictures with them, showing injuries on her face, shoulder, and hands. #DowryDeath
In fact, Kumar had once hit Nair in front of her parents. He was then taken to the police station, however, cops insisted that both sides should reach a "compromise." After that incident, Nair briefly stayed at her parents' house. #domesticviolence
Now, on Tuesday, Kumar was arrested in connection with this case. Police has invoked Indian Penal Code Section 304 (B), which pertains to dowry death. Speaking of rising incidents of dowry death, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan assured strict action would be taken.

CM Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government in Delhi exaggerated the national capital's oxygen needs by four times when the second COVID-19 wave was at its peak during April 25-May 10, found an audit team constituted by the Supreme Court. #arvindkejriwal
The panel's report said, "The oxygen consumption claimed by the Delhi (1,140MT) was four times higher than the calculated consumption as per the formula based on bed capacity (289MT)." The excess supply to Delhi could have caused a crisis of oxygen supply to 12 other states.
To recall, on May 7—after Kejriwal raised alarm over oxygen shortage—Justice DY Chandrachud-led SC bench had directed the Centre to ensure supply of 700MT even though Solicitor General Tushar Mehta presented that experts' calculation pegged Delhi's requirement at 415MT.
Mumbai Police has launched an investigation into a fake COVID-19 vaccination racket, where people are suspected to have been injected with distilled water instead of the vaccine. A special investigation team led by DCP Vishal Thakur will head the case. newsbytesapp.com/news/india/mum…
Reportedly, 390 residents of the Hiranandani Heritage Club in Kandivali (West) were administered what they believed were COVID-19 vaccines on May 30. However, they were actually injected with distilled water. This does not harm people. The beneficiaries also paid Rs. 4.56 lakh.
Further, only 120 beneficiaries received vaccination certificates and they had the names of different hospitals on their certificates. An inquiry into these hospitals revealed that there was no agreement with them to conduct a vaccination drive. That's how the scam was unearthed.
