Key takeaways from today’s @HealthZA briefing. 1/ 1.2m J&J doses arrived last night in addition to 300k last week and 500k Sisonke. A total of 4.5m Pfizer doses have arrived so far. Supply is certainly looking up.
/ In six weeks of the vacs programme so far, 2m Pfizer first doses administered and 100k J&J. This means right now we have a lot of vaccine in the system. We calculate 2.5m Pfizer and at least 1.2m J&J.
/ Daily vaccinations are at around 85k, over 100k last two days. Govt hopes to reach 150k next week, 200k by mid-July and 250k by end July.
/ Back at the end of April Spotlight published an article arguing that SA should aim for 250k vaccinations/day. The article was overly ambitious on how soon we could reach those targets, but it now seems we may well get there spotlightnsp.co.za/2021/04/30/edi…
/ It seems @HealthZA will now do these media briefings on a weekly basis. This is a welcome step forward. It would also be good for transparency if all MAC advisories are made public, say within a week of being sent to the Minister, if not immediately.
