So many of these small town murders shows from Broadchurch to Trapped to #MareOfEasttown and many in between depend on very stupid secretive behavior by friends and teenaged kids of cops, which is a bit unrealistic no? Your friend is dead but you hide info from cop mom? Nah.
There's a horrific murder, often of a young woman, known to everyone. But teens are like, mommy issues or daddy issues more important than catching a killer on the loose. Who inevitably comes after said stupid teenager. So predictable but also unrealistic.
There is no way so many actual teenagers, especially cop kids, will sit on info. TV drama writers today need to move beyond the stupid angsty teen trope to stretch a show to ten episodes.

And Stranger Things is a whole other level of lazy writing in this.
First season, they all together survived something horrific and paranormal, but still, second season and onwards, zero information sharing till the last episode. And still a lot of "no no you're imagining things" pushback. Cos Eleven could end a season in an hour otherwise.
If you read longform stories of actual such murders, and you'll find many in the Atlantic or New Yorker, teens or youngsters absolutely don't behave like this in real life. In fact their problem is the opposite. Getting cops to follow all the intel they give.
TW: Suicide

This is one of the more bizarre "unexpected deaths in a small town" true stories I've read. Youngsters IRL don't act like on TV. They talk and share a LOT.

newyorker.com/magazine/2021/…
This is of course very very true. Just not in homicides and serial murders is what I'm saying. This is America. There are sooo many such real cases. Teenagers involved were never acting like those in streaming mystery drama's today.

Omg the whole "teenager being secretive, obstructing an investigation to hurt parent, and almost dying giving us a few more pointless but emotional episodes" thing is also common in recent indian crime or mystery dramas. 😂😂😂
I know it's called family man so some family drama is default but still, Dhriti had to be written as extremely and unrealistically stupid and self destructive for this season to stretch this long, no?
It's like all streaming show contracts have a clause that they must have a stupid teenage girl who does really really stupid self destructive things but it all still works out in the end.
Damn, it's not just streaming. Serious question. Have drama shows, in which adults are the main characters, ever shown a teenage girl who has not done something stupid and self-destructive to spite her parents? And did this trope start with The Sopranos?
But Willow is not really in the same boat. She occasionally does believable stupid stuff. But generally, she comes across as a normal sensible girl. All teen girls after her think, like even in #TheAmericans are basically the same stereotype. One audiences can call stupid.
If anyone can think of a teenage daughter of a main character from a major TV/streaming drama show in the 21st century who is not pissed off at her parents who are either divorced or in trouble marriages, and is not making blatantly bad life decisions, let me know.

Yesterday was the kind of day in #NYC that future generations will talk about, like the WWII V-Day celebrations. #pride is always a fun time here (except last year obviously). But this was like a collective sigh followed by a love filled wholesome celebration. And so chill!
Other days when the streets of Manhattan are filled, like NYE, Halloween, Thanksgiving, St. Pattys, etc, mostly chill but there will still be some little tensions and jostling and occasional curses and "I'M WALKIN' HERE"s

Never at #pride

Except from the police.
It's like some elements of the NYPD are keen to do a small historical reenactment every year of what started the Stonewall Riots in the first place - police unfairly and violently going after queer folk in the West Village.

It is such an act of petulance by them. Every year!

It is not the norm but there are definitely more people than you'd think who do it. Heck, there have been a few documentaries about that.
There are two distinct sets in this as I've seen. One - very orthodox ones who brainwash or pressure their children into it. I know of stories where brothers have threatened emancipation to parents if they kept trying to make their sisters get an arranged marriage.
Second are the "born-again brahmins". They led a typical American social life but had a couple of bad breakups and decided, fuck it, I've been told all my life we bommins are best so I'm just gonna try that like my friends who turn to the bible. They jump back into the rituals.

And #NYCPride is on the move towards Stonewall. 😍😍😍
This is one parade in the city that never has a word of anger uttered.
This is my favorite picture of the day 😍🌈 Image
One thing I love about Americans is the even in a dense crowd, everyone is always trying to respect each other's space as much as possible. No shoulder to shoulder contact unless absolutely necessary and even then, apologetically.

One of the reasons I'm on twitter is KD busting emotional myths with simple facts. The uncles outraging at him are the same who got upset at me 20 years ago for saying that lot was better from anyone in the 70s except Gavaskar. Saying Dravid was better than Vishy got em so angry!
Public losing their heads at @cricketingview for observing from clear evidence that this generation of a team is generally better than the previous generation, with the exception of an outlier. A fact that is true in every sport and pretty much every human endeavor!
I think Rahul Dravid would be the first to admit that he was nowhere as solid and self-assured and technically flawless as the myth makes him out to be. Dude worked hard at it. Just like Pujara and Rahane do today. And he had many loose dismissals and lapses of concentration too.

This is not even a simile. It is a direct observation. Bisht is following exactly the template Modi followed as Chief Minister. Build up an administrative maven reputation through favorable media coverage and random awards. So 5 star hotel sanghis can pretend to vote for "vikas".
This is a conversation I had with some highly educated friends in 2013 about Modi. (yes, some friends call me dodo). This is why they were willing to give Modi a chance in 2014. Bisht is trying for the same in 2024. To give sanghis a development or TINA excuse to support him. ImageImageImageImage
P.S. the guy who I had that discussion with will not publicly stan Modi but will privately still admit that he will continue to vote for him saying "what is the alternative". He's all in for life.
