Queer inclusion in kids' cartoons has skyrocketed throughout the past decade. Here’s how shows evolved from Hays Code-era stereotypes and queer-coded villains to airing openly queer characters in groundbreaking wins for #LGBTQ visibility.

In 2018, @rebeccasugar's "Steven Universe" featured both the first LGBTQ wedding and the first LGBTQ marriage proposal in a kids' animated TV show. 👰‍♀️🤵‍♀️

And in 2020, Benson from "Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts" was the first kids' animated character to directly identify themselves as gay. Both were groundbreaking achievements in LGBTQ representation. 🌈✨

Turkey's President Erdogan has promised to save the country's seas from "sea snot," a slimy sludge that could endanger marine life and the fishing industry.

Take a look at Turkey's Sea of Marmara amid the largest outbreak of "sea snot" on record.

"Sea snot," or marine mucilage, forms when algae are overloaded with nutrients due to climate change and water pollution.

It was first discovered in Turkey in 2007, and also in the Aegean Sea near Greece.

California's Lake Oroville helps water a quarter of the nation's crops and anchors the local tourism economy.

But the lake is shrinking fast amid a severe drought and is predicted to reach a record low this summer.

But this year's is much hotter and drier than others, evaporating water more quickly from the reservoirs and the sparse Sierra Nevada snowpack that feeds them.

Over Memorial Day weekend, dozens of houseboats sat on cinder blocks at Lake Oroville because there wasn't enough water to hold them.

In nearby Folsom Lake, boat docks rested on dry land. Campers occupied dusty riverbanks farther north at Shasta Lake.
