After being sentenced, #DerekChauvin was sent straight to prison with 199 days credit for time he’s already served in jail.
Judge Cahill said the 270 month sentence he handed Chauvin is based on his "abuse in a position of authority & the "cruelty" he showed to #GeorgeFloyd.
Chauvin was found guilty of unintentional second-degree murder, third degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter in one of the most historic murder trials of the century that concluded on April 20, 2021.

The state has begun presenting victim impact statements to the court, they just played a video statement recorded by #GeorgeFloyd’s daughter Gianna Floyd.
Next victim impact statement is from Brandon Williams, Floyd’s nephew. Williams tells the court about how he won’t get any more “laughter, guidance, hugs, advice” from his uncle - those moments are “forever gone...our family is forever broken.” Requests maximum penalty.

The second day of the protests featured one of the more shocking police brutality incidents. A young woman had her head cracked open by police who knocked her to the ground as she was delivering pizzas to protesters.
