This would be my England 🏴 line up for tonight. (Thread)
Quick analysis (and general thoughts) as to why and I expect many people will disagree especially about the midfield so if you do please let me know why:
I start by saying I have a lot of respect for Southgate as a manager, I’m not necessarily criticising him as I’m not in a place to do so, but the 3-4-3 system for me at least is very necessary to win tonight.
The system (3-4-3):
Two reasons for this:
1. Stop the German overload on the flanks when they are in possession and go 3-2-5. With a 4-3-3 they would simply play around it with the wing-backs. Likely a similar result and performance to the Portugal vs Germany game with 4-3-3.
An individual battle which scares me however, is the left sided German forward against Kyle Walker. His physicality would be less of a tool to cope with the forward due to the more central positioning on the pitch and his pace wouldn’t be able to bail him out in a inside channel.
2. Maximising Grealish and the left hand side’s utility:
I expect Sterling to be a very popular choice on the left of the front 3 for many, however, Grealish for me is England’s second best player and most creative. In a game like this and where we have struggled to create...
previously without him, he must start. I’d like Southgate to copy the blueprint of the Italian left side with Spinazzola (Chilwell) holding the width in attack and Insigne (Grealish) operating as a inside forward and in the half spaces.
The German defence isn’t anything...
to rave about, especially considering they are using a back 3 and still look suspect. Grealish could cause havoc operating in that role and supply numerous chances for others. Chilwell has previously shown he’s more than competent occupying this exact role for Chelsea, the...
experience will help him and Southgate in this situation.
Personnel:
The keeper and back 3 I won’t discuss, they pick themselves.
I’d go Reece over Trippier just but I’m not opposed to the latter, just think Reece has the edge when it comes to attacking quality (set pieces..
excluded). Also he has big game experience in this system recently (UCL final), Trippier doesn’t.
Chilwell again has successful experience operating in this same system and role at club level. I believe he offers more in a LWB position in comparison to Shaw, in an attacking....
sense and that’s what his job tonight will primarily be to do. Small variable but he has a good off the pitch relationship with Grealish which can help.
Grealish I’ve discussed, Kane is for me the best striker in the world, he just hasn’t had too much service. Saka warrants a...
start after his performance last game.
Rice x Bellingham midfield:
This is where I imagine most disagreements will come. Rice again picks himself.
My reasoning for Bellingham is his versatility and ball progression, both of which are needed in this system, almost performing..
a Kovavic esque role. From what I’ve seen he has the defensive discipline to operate in a two man midfield but where he thrives will be on the transition and that’s where I think he can excel this England side.
Phillips and Henderson are both good options, I just think...
Bellingham is a better one.

I won’t be starting with him, want to see how he integrates into the side as my gut feeling (at the moment, this may change) tells me he doesn’t hit the ground running.
too high a price for me to justify facilitating him with a plethora of other well established midfield options.
Nuno 🇵🇹 -
The Doherty revival is now certainly a viable prospect. However before choosing him I want to see an improvement in Spurs’s individual CB performances...
and arguably more importantly a better defensive structure off the ball, specifically against the 4-2-3-1.
Before I start I’d like to say, this team and the reasoning are all based on my assumptions. As we have seen there have been many upsets and anything can happen.
This playing style has worked well for me (14k 🌍 OR), so I will continue to persist with it.
Now onto the thread...
England 🏴:
4 games into a major tournament and not a single one conceded, extremely impressive.
The “pragmatic” approach Southgate is employing is proving very beneficial for fantasy managers. I expect the same against Ukraine, he may revert to a 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 but as seen....
Apart from Varane they are the only nailed French defensive assets, Kimpembe at €5.6M is the cheapest + I mainly want full backs for defenders hence Lloris> Varane
🇨🇭 followed by 🇭🇷/ 🇪🇸 shouldn’t be the hardest defensive challenge..
therefore it allows me to triple up without using transfers for the QF.
Of course this is based on the assumption that they win, however I think 🇭🇷 or 🇪🇸 should be comfortable and if they nullify Shaqiri by crowding out the midfield they won’t concede too many chances.
If the Czech 🇨🇿 set up in a low block, which I expect them to do considering they need a point to top the group, the same problem that occurred against 🏴 will arise.
Lack of numbers in the half spaces won’t allow any centre backs to be drawn...
hence the runners in Sterling (and Saka to an extent) become highly ineffective.
2. Kalvin Phillips playing as an advanced No 8.
Whilst he’s individually been good the role isn’t made for him. The role requires better ball progression and progressive passing, Bellingham....
No chip approach for BGW18 and DGW19;
(2nd wildcard exempt, unless purely using it to accommodate, 1 or 2 of these GWs). #FPL#FPLCommunity@OfficialFPL
THREAD:
Firstly, let’s look at the chip which has been discussed the most within the FPL community, the free hit.
The free hit has the potential to single-handedly swing an individual’s season for the positive, due to potentially having 22 games played for your team, including differentials with favourable fixtures for the particular GW. Let’s first take a look at BGW18. The free hit is....
something which you want to use to aggressively, hence in a DGW rather than BGW, that is my first problem with using it in BGW18. Secondly, the fixtures in BGW18 aren’t to appealing to me for two reasons; unpredictability of results and the lack of “high ceiling”..
