Before I start I’d like to say, this team and the reasoning are all based on my assumptions. As we have seen there have been many upsets and anything can happen.
This playing style has worked well for me (14k 🌍 OR), so I will continue to persist with it.
Now onto the thread...
England 🏴:
4 games into a major tournament and not a single one conceded, extremely impressive.
The “pragmatic” approach Southgate is employing is proving very beneficial for fantasy managers. I expect the same against Ukraine, he may revert to a 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 but as seen....
in the group stage, England are clearly efficient regardless of the system. Maguire, Stones and Pickford are all practically guaranteed a start and I like that sense of security.
I don’t see any other teams being more likely to keep a clean sheet than England, and the CB’s...
both have good capabilities to score from set pieces.
Finally moving onto Sterling, whilst I personally don’t think his actual performances have been brilliant, he’s in good goal scoring form and confidence in a major tournament is as powerful a tool as any. Given the other....
midfield options I think he’s worthy of a spot in your side.
🏴 Tournament progression:
Reach the final.
I will discuss how the wildcard team should move going forward at the end of the thread.
Belgium 🇧🇪:
Courtois + Meunier -
I wasn’t overly impressed by the Italians patterns of play when going forward against Austria and I have said from the start I expect Belgium to reach the final (and beat Italy). Doubling up on these two will have a sense of longevity but....
more importantly I think they keep the Italians out. 🇮🇹 are likely to struggle to operate efficiently enough in the final third and don’t have a player who will position himself in the inside channel/ half spaces to disrupt the Belgian set up of a 3-4-3. They have some very...
good players but not the sort to consistently unlock the Belgian defence (No 10. esque needed - Grealish is the ideal type of player).
Lukaku -
Still my pick for the golden boot winner. I expect Patrik Schick 🇨🇿 to go out this round so will only need two more goals ⚽️ to catch Ronaldo. Belgium will likely have a slight over reliance on him to score given KDB and Eden Hazard may miss the match. Given his...
quality I expect him to rise to the expectation.
The Italians are good defensively but over the course of potentially 120 minutes especially when the game gets stretched and Lukaku’s physicality comes more into play, he’s definitely going to have a chance or two.
I expect...
him to utilise the inside full back channels as much as possible to exploit the left side especially when Spinazzola is pushed up and he can try and get 1 on 1 with Acerbi.
🇧🇪 Tournament progression:
Meet England in the final, hence the triple up.
Will add more after the QF.
Insigne 🇮🇹 -
Given I just spoke about the encounter with Belgium thought it best to place him here in the thread.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Italy get one goal, he’s a main source of their creativity and has a high level of involvement for their attacks. As such, becomes a...
viable option and allows me to have some sense of security by hedging my bets against Belgium.
Unlike the team structure in comparison to the quadruple England 🏴 choice.
On the transition is where I would expect him to score if the 🇧🇪 WB and CB’s lose focus (+ on set pieces)
Denmark 🇩🇰 -
I am massively impressed by their whole team, especially the three players below.
I expect them to beat the Czech Republic and against England in the SF (most likely), I genuinely wouldn’t be shocked if they beat them. I discuss that later but now onto the picks..
Damsgaard -
Short and sweet analysis because he does the talking for me on the pitch.
A serious player.
Good ball progression, tidy on the ball, efficient and quick in the pockets between the lines, got a goal in him, large general involvement and against a 4-2-3-1....
especially I think he will find a lot of space high up the field. Finally what enhances the pick even more for me is the 🇨🇿 used a high press against 🏴, I expect they will do the same and this translates to a massive haul opportunity.
The Danish put four past 🏴, so are...
clearly confident and hungry for a large quantity of goals. Think there’s huge upside here.
Dolberg -
First time I ever watched him play was against Wales and was mightily impressed. 3 things which stood out:
1. Clinical finishing ability
2. Hold up play
3. Positioning
He’s another player with a huge upside and having just bagged a brace will be full of confidence.
The 1st and 3rd points all lead to goals but the 2nd brings in the potential for assist, just heightening his ceiling.
Maehle -
Arguably performance of the tournament against..
Wales, he was everywhere.
A very competent defence (3 brilliant CB’s) and self-beneficial defensive system, allows him to operate so high up the pitch giving such a high xG and xA for a defender that his ceiling is very high.
No brain pick.
Spain 🇪🇸 -
Morata + Sarabia -
Very simple for me.
Heavily involved in everything Spain do,🇨🇭 are good but not good enough to limit Spain creating at least 2 big chances in the game.
High ceilings + good form and given I expect Spain to win, make it a fairly easy pick.
Azpilicueta + Shaqiri -
I’m unsure of Enrique’s approach. In reference to how expansive he sets his side up to be. As such I’m hedging my bets with these two, picks based of strategy rather than personnel.
Azpi very likely to start, Swiss are good going forward and Shaqiri...
has a high involvement.
Tournament progression/ predictions:
Final:
🏴 vs 🇧🇪
SF:
🏴 vs 🇩🇰
🇧🇪 vs 🇪🇸
This is what I’ve based my assumptions off, and as such there are enough future transfers to cover even if one of these 4 sides get knocked out before the SF.
Captaincy:
(In preferred order)
Friday -
1. Morata (unpopular but I really like this move)
2. Lukaku
3. Ferran Torres
Saturday -
1. Maehle/ Damsgaard/ Dolberg
2. Kane/Sterling
Kane 🏴, Ferran Torres 🇪🇸 and KDB 🇧🇪 (if fit) are the 3 players I worry about not owning.
I’ve put a lot of work into this thread so any love ❤️ + ♻️, would be really appreciated.
I hope it has helped.
Good luck!

I won’t be starting with him, want to see how he integrates into the side as my gut feeling (at the moment, this may change) tells me he doesn’t hit the ground running.
too high a price for me to justify facilitating him with a plethora of other well established midfield options.
Nuno 🇵🇹 -
The Doherty revival is now certainly a viable prospect. However before choosing him I want to see an improvement in Spurs’s individual CB performances...
and arguably more importantly a better defensive structure off the ball, specifically against the 4-2-3-1.
This would be my England 🏴 line up for tonight. (Thread)
Quick analysis (and general thoughts) as to why and I expect many people will disagree especially about the midfield so if you do please let me know why:
I start by saying I have a lot of respect for Southgate as a manager, I’m not necessarily criticising him as I’m not in a place to do so, but the 3-4-3 system for me at least is very necessary to win tonight.
The system (3-4-3):
Two reasons for this:
1. Stop the German overload on the flanks when they are in possession and go 3-2-5. With a 4-3-3 they would simply play around it with the wing-backs. Likely a similar result and performance to the Portugal vs Germany game with 4-3-3.
Apart from Varane they are the only nailed French defensive assets, Kimpembe at €5.6M is the cheapest + I mainly want full backs for defenders hence Lloris> Varane
🇨🇭 followed by 🇭🇷/ 🇪🇸 shouldn’t be the hardest defensive challenge..
therefore it allows me to triple up without using transfers for the QF.
Of course this is based on the assumption that they win, however I think 🇭🇷 or 🇪🇸 should be comfortable and if they nullify Shaqiri by crowding out the midfield they won’t concede too many chances.
If the Czech 🇨🇿 set up in a low block, which I expect them to do considering they need a point to top the group, the same problem that occurred against 🏴 will arise.
Lack of numbers in the half spaces won’t allow any centre backs to be drawn...
hence the runners in Sterling (and Saka to an extent) become highly ineffective.
2. Kalvin Phillips playing as an advanced No 8.
Whilst he’s individually been good the role isn’t made for him. The role requires better ball progression and progressive passing, Bellingham....
No chip approach for BGW18 and DGW19;
(2nd wildcard exempt, unless purely using it to accommodate, 1 or 2 of these GWs). #FPL#FPLCommunity@OfficialFPL
THREAD:
Firstly, let’s look at the chip which has been discussed the most within the FPL community, the free hit.
The free hit has the potential to single-handedly swing an individual’s season for the positive, due to potentially having 22 games played for your team, including differentials with favourable fixtures for the particular GW. Let’s first take a look at BGW18. The free hit is....
something which you want to use to aggressively, hence in a DGW rather than BGW, that is my first problem with using it in BGW18. Secondly, the fixtures in BGW18 aren’t to appealing to me for two reasons; unpredictability of results and the lack of “high ceiling”..
