Coming up with STRONG marketing angles

This is one of the most important yet least understood skills in all of e-commerce…

Here’s how it works

THREAD
Marketing angle = the overarching theme behind your ad

The big idea, the pull, the sex appeal, the #1 reason someone should pay attention and buy your product
For example a while back P90X came up with the marketing angle “muscle confusion”

There’s no science behind it but it sounds sexy, it was new and exciting at the time, and it directly led to millions in revenue
You can do something similar for your product, here’s an example

Let’s say we’re selling a knee brace

Most people would use a super generic angle like “reduce knee pain”
True? Maybe

Compelling? No

People have already seen that a million times

We need something stronger
First we’ll narrow down our target market

Let’s say our knee brace is for athletes, and more specifically soccer players

(The more specific we get in who we’re targeting the easier it is to come up with compelling angles)
Next we’ll think about what our knee brace can do for our target market

- *Recover* from past injuries faster
- *Protect* from injuries in the future
- *Reduce* pain while playing

All of these are different angles
It might seem subtle but each of these are going to produce dramatically different ads

People in our market will respond to them differently

And some may work better than the others
Once we have a few angles written down we’ll expand on them and make ads around them

I’ve mocked up a super quick example using the angle of “recover faster”
We can do the same for all the other angles we come up with

And from there all that’s left is to test our ads and see which angles perform best
The way we come up with angles?

Mainly through research

- Amazon reviews of similar products
- Forums of people in our market

Look for patterns in WHY people bought the product, what they’re using it for, etc.
Then combine that with your knowledge of the market, any previous experience, and honestly just common sense
Every ad you test should have some sort of compelling angle behind it that’s specific to the market you’re showing it to and that you believe is likely to resonate with them and catch their attention
TL;DR

Go beyond the generic, come up with unique, compelling, and specific angles, and above all test a lot of different ones

Hope that was valuable

How I found my first $1,000,000+ e-commerce product

This is a simple formula anyone can follow

THREAD
Some of you might know my first big winner was Apple Watch straps

Not your typical "winning product"

But in 2018 it went on to generate me over $1.5M in sales

Here's how I found it ↓
It's a cold winter night, I'm working my pizza delivery job about to start closing the store

I walk up to the front and notice my co-worker just got a new Apple Watch

It caught my eye because he had a cool band for it that I'd never seen before

THREAD: How to VALIDATE ideas

Before you start a business you need to figure out if your idea is actually good or not

This is the first and most crucial step in any business

Here’s how to do it ↓
Validating ideas = determining if anyone actually wants what you’re trying to sell (before spending months building out the entire business)

Think of it as a demand test
The goal is to get the most basic bare bones version of your idea in front of people who might want or need it…

In the LEAST amount of time, and while spending the LEAST amount of money…

So you can see if anyone is actually willing to buy it

It’s not perfect, but following this weird “points” system is about the closest you can get to guaranteeing your success in business

How to make your success INEVITABLE

THREAD
People think success is a mystery. It’s not. Simply put success is the result of consistent effort compounded over time

This is (in my opinion) the single most important concept to understand if you want succeed in business
Because of this, our #1 priority should be putting in consistent effort on a daily basis over a long period of time

This is easier said than done however

So to make it easier, we gamify it

Here’s how it works

Want to increase your store’s conversion rate? Make your product page SKIMMABLE

This is a small change that can make a huge difference

THREAD
In ecom no one’s reading every word on your product page. 95% of the time they’re SKIMMING, which means your page should be structured to reflect that
Easiest way to do that is to treat your headlines as if they were the ONLY words you get to sell your product

The best kept secret in e-commerce? Products with BUILT-IN demand

I accidentally discovered this in 2018 and it completely changed the way I find products to sell (not to mention generated me over $1M+ in sales)

Forget “winning products” — this is way easier

THREAD
This is a method for finding products to sell with e-commerce / dropshipping

The basic concept is instead of selling any random product, you sell a product that “piggybacks” off an existing (often expensive) product that’s ALREADY popular
This usually takes the form of an accessory or upgrade

(If someone spent hundreds or thousands of dollars on a product, a $30 accessory that improves it or makes it more unique is a pretty easy sell)

Prime example:

Apple Watches
