The Ladakh region of India has been one of the most enchanting landscapes that I have wanted to capture through my lens. I have to confess that no amount of photos can do justice.o the beauty of the untouched nature
but having said that these photos give you a hint of whats really there! The weather is sub-zero thru most parts of the year and it's about a 4-month window that the roads are even open to access this area. The oxygen concentration is low in the air that gives the extra challenge
One of the areas we pass thru is Chantang Plateau, which is about 4,000 sq km, at altitudes between 14,000 to 19,000 ft. It has deep gorges and vast plateaus. The temperature varies between 25ºC and -40ºC. The area is sparsely populated by nomads, with their herds of yak and goat
living a harsh existence. The only place where the pashmina goats are reared, the region is so arid and cold it said that it takes many months for a single blade of grass to grow. As evolution has it, these pashmina goats have developed excellent natural wool that keeps them warm
The Changpa nomadic tribe over the centuries have reared yaks for milk and milk products and the pashmina goats for their down wool. They would then barter this wool for salt in the olden days for the wool, of course, today they sell them for currency.
This wool is known to be the softest and lightest wool that has fantastic thermal insulation properties.
In my travel across Ladakh, I came across this pack of goat scurrying across the road for greener pastures
and the light was just right and the dust rising added dynamism to the frame. I told my taxi driver to halt and I had my image of the day. The Pashmina Crossing
am reporting this as a responsible citizen. Am also following 100% HQ in Blr. I cannot say the same about the hundreds of travellers who may have come across the interstate borders
I also have to add there was no fever check done at the attibele check post. only details of traveller was noted and home quarantine stamped. This is not good for Karnataka. authorities kindly make a note of the same
