I wouldn't brush off this DeKalb takeover attempt as fast as you do, @Brambleman.
I think that there are GOP leaders in some counties who would sacrifice local bi-partisan oversight to gain top down non-transparent autocratic election management.
See below .1/
2/ The @ajc doesn't have it quite right on how the takeovers can work. While yes, a "performance review" can be initiated by various officials, the far more direct route is for the St. Board to act on its own motion to remove the county board on 3 trivial "violations."
3/ The @ajc oddly does not mention the more realistic possibility of SEB taking over the county bd. on its own motion, and can be recommended by anyone, like McCarthy.
It's a dangerous thing she's doing, and can have grave anti-democratic results if the SEB listens to her.
4/ Take it seriously.

1/ Why would GA's GOP lawmakers vote almost unanimously to ban photos like this one? SB202's Photography Ban criminalizes photography or recording of any voted ballot.
It is part of a group of bans to conceal the election operations from the public.
2/ It is a package of First Amendment infringements to restrict transparency. There's a Gag Rule and Estimating Bans in addition to the Photography Ban.
Here's an example of how all three can come into play.
Notice anything weird in the photo of this CO ballot below?
3/ I discovered hundreds of ballots like this --marked with the both blue and black ink in a small county, in a fairly small election in 2012.
Yes, it was mail ballot fraud, with someone marking races in undervotes races.
Reported it to CO AG.
1/ Tomorrow (Thursday) at 10am watch the first court hearing on SB202. Our Motion for Preliminary Injunction on some (not all) of the challenged provisions is being heard. Will be a zoom hearing. 1/
2/ You will hear why this informative type of Nov. reporting from CNN is now criminalized. (Violates SB202's "Photography Ban," the "Gag Rule," & the "Estimating Ban," now in place.) cnn.com/videos/politic…
3/ What @GaSecofState and SB202 "Yea" votes are clearly trying to do is to have the state control elections from behind closed doors, leaving citizens and press outside with their noses pressed against the window pane to see what the gov't is doing with their votes.
1/ Fulton ballot images--Nov. 2020, original machine count--with caveats. bit.ly/CGGFulton1
Fulton only produced the file categories listed below.
Does not seem to include in-person voting.
These images do not include Nov. machine recount.
2/ We are asking that Fulton complete the production of their ballot images, and will post those when they do.
We have not reviewed the files, and cannot answer questions about them.
3/ We have a much larger number of Fulton files from the machine recount, which we will try again to upload.
Apologies for the long delay in uploading. The files gave us fits for a while, but appear to have finally reached their destination.
Protecting voting rights goes beyond making sure every eligible elector can vote. That's imperative! But we @CoalitionGoodGv focus on the next crucial step--making sure each vote counts accurately!
We are tiny but effective 501(c)(3) focusing almost all effort in GA now-- 1/
2/ Learn more Tuesday June 22 about why we continue to sue GA to ban the electronic touchscreen voting machines.
We're co-hosting national webinar bringing in USA's top experts. Public is welcome.
Confused about whether GA election outcomes were "audited" in Nov. and whether GA voting system can actually produce a verifiable result in the future?
Join the national forum on Tuesday at 12pm ET on the topic of touchscreen BMD voting systems. conta.cc/3wAcYZC 1/
2/ Spoiler alert--As scientists have warned since 2018, the touchscreen BMD machines are not an improvement over the previous paperless touchscreen machines. Touchscreen voting cannot be protected from hacking and manipulation.
Register for forum and understand why.
3/ HB316 (2019) mandated touchscreen BMDs. It was party line vote. Dems voted NO, and R's voted YES for touchscreen BMDs.
Now @GaRepublicans have voted at convention to demand that legislature ditch BMDs and go to Hand Marked Ballots, reversing themselves on HB316--at last!
Press taking pictures like the one below is now illegal under #SB202. ( misdemeanor)
How will press react to this unconstitutional restriction during the upcoming private "audit."
We are suing to stop this infringement on First Amendment rights. 1/
