📍Let this sink in—currently 43 #COVID19 hospitalized in Sydney🇦🇺, 10 of whom are in ICU. 4 of whom require ventilation. ➡️“Of the 10 people in ICU, **one is age ~20s**. One is in their 30s. One is in their 50s”. That is the serious #DeltaVariant folks. 🧵
news.com.au/national/nsw-a…
2) “We have 14 people admitted to hospital at the moment with Covid-19 under the age of 55, and of those, seven are under the age of 35”.
3) Australia and others be warned - this same thing is happening in the US and UK and even Israel where they are more heavily vaccinated.
4) The Us ignored the #DeltaVariant for too long. It caught up with us thinking we can simply vaccinate alone out of this. We must strongly mitigate more with other measures on top of vaccines. That is the key here.
5) The #DeltaVariant is particularly 1 dose vaccine evasive. Only 18-30% with one dose, much lower than before. Two doses better much much weaker. Scotland found 79% two dose Pfizer efficacy for #DeltaVariant infection, while Israel found 64-70%.
6) Israel’s ministry of health reported a 64% efficacy of 2 dose Pfizer in June when #DeltaVariant dominant, compared to 94% just in May recently. That’s a big drop. Another Israel study found 70% against delta, but same ballpark. Hospitalization efficacy now 93% instead of 98%
7) If you want to see what #DeltaVariant can do once it hits ~99-100% dominant, England is a notable rise in hospitalizations. England is even more fully vaccinated than the US. Yet still increase. This is why Australia cannot release its #COVID19 mitigation measures yet!
8) Sounds like New South Wales is having a hard time with compliance. They need to upgrade they masks and add more ventilation and indoor air disinfection too. amp.abc.net.au/article/100276…
9) if you’re from Australia or have Australian family, you should watch this… spot the Easter egg 🥚
10) And yes, #DeltaVariant is indeed more transmissible / more contagious than smallpox. Who said this? Dr @larrybrilliant, who led the worldwide efforts to eradicate smallpox. So it’s legit, you can say it again - Delta is more contagious than smallpox.

⚠️Bad trend—Netherlands reports a near vertical >800% increase in new #COVID19 cases in 1 week. Greece 🇬🇷 and Spain 🇪🇸 nearly matching that surge. @WHO now reports over 2 dozen countries with “near vertical” sharp rises in cases—mostly #DeltaVariant. Pandemic “Act 2” has begun.🧵 Image
2) Listen to Dr @mvankerkhove talk about the sharp global rise in cases. “2 dozen” countries with **near vertical rise** in #COVID19 cases. Let that sink in. #DeltaVariant is damn serious.

3) How does Netherlands, Greece, Spain compare in vaccinated %? All 3 countries ~ 40% fully vaccinated. Not that low relative to the world or rest of Europe. UK is 50% vaccinated and it’s still seeing hospitalizations & deaths rise. Keep vaccinating—#DeltaVariant coming. Image

Sobering—The most vulnerable folks may have no choice but to restart shielding (ie stay at home) after remaining England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 #COVID19 mitigation rules are removed on 19 July, Sarah Gilbert warns. Who is she?—the chief creator of Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine.
inews.co.uk/news/politics/…
2) “The Government has not yet issued updated guidance for how 3.8 million people classed as clinically extremely vulnerable should protect themselves from Covid-19 as social distancing and compulsory mask wearing comes to an end.
3) “Dame Sarah Gilbert, who led the Oxford vaccine team: “In people who have been vaccinated and have had the two doses, they will be well protected against disease that is severe enough to put them in hospital, and death. But that’s only about half have had their two doses.

Florida #COVID19 cases and hospitalizations both rising. 5,790 new coronavirus cases today, the biggest one-day increase since April. I’m going to wager it’s mostly likely the #DeltaVariant. HT @BNODesk. Image
2) Reminder @RonDeSantisFL, mass infection approach like UK should never be an option! Please do something
3) Dear @RonDeSantisFL, please stop the #COVID19 surge - don’t be morally empty and “Epidemiologically stupid” like Boris Johnson.

If CDC says we parents and teachers are on our own for schools, then we need to start getting creative with our own air disinfection devices… the Jerry-rigged air cleaning device below tapes together several MERV13 filters into a cube called a “Corsi Box” (named after @CorsIAQ).
2) Here is more details on how to assemble a Corsi box for air cleaning classrooms. See thread 🧵
3) Indoor air disinfection with portable HEPA filters also works. And very effective

Schools without rules for masks? Without fresh air ventilation / disinfection / air exchange minimum? Without testing? With vaccination for teachers? While #DeltaVariant soaring? ➡️ CDC is making another grave mistake. Kids need safe schools! #COVID19 🧵

2) I need a few hours to mull and fume over all this. Meantime, please add VENTILATION and AIR DISINFECTION for the love of god!!! #COVID19

📍Think of the children—Canadian govt’s most representative study investigating how many have #SARSCoV2 antibodies says—kids had highest infection rates of all age groups. Why is this key? Kids are our future. 1 in 12 kids getting #LongCovid too risky. 🧵
covid19immunitytaskforce.ca/study-reveals-…
2) “One of the most interesting findings is the fact that seniors – those not in long-term care – were not the ones to have had the most SARS-CoV-2 infections in Canada,” says Dr. Catherine Hankins.
3) “Younger age groups – and especially children and adolescents – had higher rates of antibodies in their blood suggesting a past SARS-CoV-2 infection.”
