The lies and disinformation about global vaccinations that pour out of certain parts of the EU - in particular, from the German government and the European Commission it dominates - are just appalling.

Leaders in Germany & at the EU Commission want you to think that time doesn't matter. The attitude is: sure, poor people will have to wait for years, but you know, it will happen eventually. Go have a nice summer, Europeans, & don't worry about it. We have it under control. Lies.
Thankfully, people are getting smarter.
People are learning about the emergence of variants and understanding that the vaccination rate matters.

One key reason for the slow vaccination rollout is the global scarcity of vaccine doses.
One key reason for that is that the EU (led by Germany in this), the UK, Norway, Switzerland and a few others have been allowing pharma companies to control production of vaccine doses.

They don't aim to maximise production; they aim to maximise profits by setting production level and price to suit them.

Our current vaccine scarcity is down to businesses aiming to maximise their profits and some rich country governments supporting those businesses in this, allowing those companies to control/limit production rather than adopting a policy of maximum vaccine production.
The key tool for this policy is restrictive patents.
From the beginning, the EU has been blocking & delaying wider vaccine production globally by obstructing the #TRIPSwaiver, a proposal to temporarily waive some intellectual property rules on vaccines & other health products.

And since they control the rate of vaccine production, that's a pretty safe bet.
Yes, those companies that control the level of vaccine production are the same companies that will profit more when new variants emerge because vaccine production was too limited.
