Happy New Year! Most of us in higher education start our new year in July and @MineralAreaCC is no exception. It hasn't been the easiest of years but some good things did happen...a thread.
2/13 We improved polices to provide greater equity for our general services crew. I am really proud of this one, it seems strange but they didn't get the same time off every year as all other employees. Now they do.
3/13 MAC partnered with the @MineralAreaFAA to provide music and theatre for the community and rebuild the arts programs at @MineralAreaCC. This is a very exciting development and we are very thankful for their involvement and support.
4/13 We were able to add and renew articulation and transfer agreements with multiple institutions so students can have a clear path to a four year degree after MAC.
5/13 The @MACmbball team went to the national tournament for the 3rd time in program history, but the first time ranked #1 overall. Undefeated regular season, @NJCAA Player of the Year @LeonsMalevy, and an outstanding team GPA.
6/13 MAC had one of the best Covid-19 responses in the region and our employees did a great job supporting the mask and distancing policies. We were able to host multiple vaccine clinics and due to the measures taken we were open all academic year and had very few cases.
7/13 We completed the plan for a new 80K square foot career and tech training facility on campus. We were approved for $5M from the state of Missouri to help with this project. This will be huge for workforce development in the region.
8/13 College Park, our residence halls, were full for the first time in a decade.
9/13 Funding was approved from the MAC Foundation to kickstart the new MAC E-sports program. We are excited to get started!
10/13 In 2019 we started men's and women's soccer. I'm proud to say that program did not cost MAC a penny. It has returned +100% of it's expenses back to the college in enrollment, housing, fundraising, & other revenue. Currently, 50 students are signed to play at MAC in the fall
11/13 Men's @MACRunningCards won the @NJCAA National Title for the second year in a row and were recognized on the floor of the Missouri House of Representatives.
12/13 MAC won several awards at the annual @MCCATweet Convention in 2020 - Senior Service, Governor's Award for Teaching Excellence, and Faculty Innovation.
13/13 MAC is a great place to work and go to college. I am so proud to be a part of an institution that recognizes others, works hard to serve the community, and provides affordable, accessible education for all.
This year has been rough but there was some good news, here are some things we accomplished at @MineralAreaCC this year! Still a lot to celebrate in the #YearOfTheCardinal! A thread…
Corrected missed salary step. All employees saw an increase in salary to start the new academic year in 2019, a correction of a previously skipped scheduled increase. #YearOfTheCardinal
Improved the @MineralAreaCC diversity statement to include and protect our friends of the LGBT community to include “sexual orientation and gender identity”. #YearOfTheCardinal 🌈
The following thread outlines the announcements sent to @MineralAreaCC students today due to the #Coronavirus National Emergency. Stay safe everyone.
🐦All @MineralAreaCC campuses will close at the end of business today for the duration of the semester. All on-ground courses will continue online.
Services are still available online and by the phone. We may be closed but we are still available to support you.
🐦It is with a heavy heart that the decision was made to cancel @MineralAreaCC commencement this year. All students eligible to graduate will still be allowed to do so, and encouraged to walk in a future ceremony.
Today we welcomed back our faculty & staff to @MineralAreaCC. I had the pleasure of providing the State of the College address. This thread will provide highlights of our 2020 agenda. It's great to have everyone back! 2020 is going to be a great year for MAC! #YearOfTheCardinal
The State of the College is GOOD! Financial audits show we are in good shape. We will focus on optimism and financial responsibility/accountability moving forward. We can always get better & we have work to do but @MineralAreaCC is in good shape this year! #YearOfTheCardinal
2019 saw the removal of our app. fee, soccer & e-gaming, promising support from local education partners, a GREAT @hlcommission visit, @MineralAreaCC employees recognized as Champions of Excellence & faculty/staff recognition at @MCCATweet convention #YearOfTheCardinal
The first week of classes here at @MineralAreaCC, some instructors asked their students to write down their thoughts on why they chose MAC and how it is going. Those statements (anonymous) were given to me in their own words. Here is a thread of some examples...#POMAC
@MineralAreaCC "My online classes make it easier for me so I do not miss too many classes if my kids are sick. I've met a lot of great people so far and I look forward to the semesters ahead of me"
@MineralAreaCC provides great resources and course options for non-traditional students! #POMAC
@MineralAreaCC "My teachers have been great and my advisors have always tried to make the best schedule for me. It's such an easy going environment, which is great for students!"
@MineralAreaCC has dedicated staff and faculty ready to help students have the best experience possible. #POMAC
My first presidential address to the @MineralAreaCC faculty and staff went very well! Such great people to work with, I can't wait to meet them all. I was able to present my vision for the future of MAC today and some of my key points are in this thread, enjoy! #POMAC
Making a basic cost-of-living increase each year a priority goes a long way in valuing people. Money doesn't equal happiness in employment, but feeling valued does. Knowing your place of employment cares enough to make this a priority is priceless. #POMAC
Currently, @MineralAreaCC has one of the lowest tuition rates in the state. This is important for accessibility of our low income region and helping students leave without debt.
