This point bears repeating. People infected with the #DeltaVariant had about 1,000 times more copies of the virus in their respiratory tracts than those infected with the original strain of the coronavirus. npr.org/sections/goats…

I know I’m preaching to the choir, but stay safe. Especially in areas of high #DeltaVariant transmission. If you have friends on the fence with vaccination continue sharing stories. Severe disease and death is preventable with vaccination.

For those new to following me, I've posted deaths from people who have died from COVID since March 2020, when I first treated patients as an ER doctor in New York City, long before vaccines were available. I memorialize the dead to put faces to statistics. 100s in this thread.
Memorializing lives lost to COVID is heavy on the heart, but important work. I've sounded the alarm about this deadly virus throughout the pandemic and will continue. I urge everyone to #GetVaccinated.
I've seen healthy young people die from COVID throughout this pandemic before the #DeltaVariant. I've continued to fight mis/disinformation that it's only obese or elderly people dying. Tragically, my family was blindsided early in the pandemic

Her uncle Buddy Gibbons wrote the following on Facebook.
"If you have vaccine hesitancy, I understand your concerns. I urge you to reconsider your stance and get vaccinated. This isn’t about ‘politics’. This isn’t about ‘freedom’. This isn’t about ‘control’. This isn’t about ‘God’s will’. This was a human failing."

Expect indoor mask mandates nationwide in the upcoming weeks for BOTH vaccinated and unvaccinated people as the #DeltaVariant continues to run rampant across the country.
I told him as an expert in the field I strongly recommend wearing a mask, but he just kept bringing up his "rights"
In some states, masks are being HIGHLY recommended rather than mandated.

In 1962 Dallas County #Texas vaccinated 950,000 residents against the poliovirus in two days, ensuring an immunization rate well over 90%.
Polio was the biggest public health problem in the United States at midcentury. The public embraced the work of Drs. Jonas Salk and Albert Bruce Sabin, both of whom were hailed as heroes. Fear of the disease overcame any anxiety about taking the vaccine. dallasnews.com/business/healt…
Polio is a contagious viral illness that in its most severe form causes nerve injury leading to paralysis, difficulty breathing and sometimes death.
