Florida rep. Anthony Sabatini (an anti-vaxxer & “Mar-A-Lago sycophant”) seeks “forensic audit” of “Hillsborough, Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach & Orange counties,” all “Democratic Party strongholds” His list “notably doesn't include his own county.” 1/ orlandoweekly.com/Blogs/archives…
Note: I don’t trust Florida’s results either, especially Miami Dade. Florida’s official audits are not good. But the GOP always acts in bad faith and an unofficial partisan audit is concerning. And God knows what they mean by “forensic audit.” 2/
It is also concerning that Sabatini wants to look only at the presidential race. The SAFE Act wld have required robust manual audits of all federal races (not just the presidential), but the GOP blocked it. 3/ axios.com/gop-senator-el…
I wrote this about concerns with Florida elections. There are legitimate concerns. 4/ link.medium.com/3yvuZKvidib
Some thoughts on poll-defying results out of Miami Dade. 5/
Note that at least some of these counties destroyed their ballot images. There is a pending lawsuit about this destruction. The Florida Democratic Party is a co-plaintiff. It was filed before the election & spearheaded by Audit USA. 6/ drive.google.com/file/d/1Oy23Co…
Note that the supervisor of elections in Miami Dade is a Republican who was appointed by the Republican who defied the polls to win the House Dist. 36 race. @TheDemocrats shld respond to Sabatini’s move by demanding a full manual recount of that race by experienced auditors. 7/
In August 2019, as reported by Kim Zetter Miami-Dade was busted for connecting its county central tabulator (used for compiling all precinct totals) to the internet (and leaving it connected). 8/ vice.com/en/article/3kx…
Again, Miami Dade is a Democratic stronghold with a Republican supervisor of elections. 9/
If Ds respond to Sabatini by defending the integrity of Florida’s internet-connected elections, I will tear my hair out. They shld scrutinize the cherry picking and the type of “audit” sought, but they must NOT pretend to know that Florida elections are clean. 10/
If anything, Ds shld use this as an opportunity to examine their poll-defying losses in the state. 11/
Another notable absence from Sabatini’s list is Seminole county. 12/
Ds shld also use this as an oppty to improve Florida’s crappy audit & recount laws (they are mostly just re-scans), to get modems removed from the state’s voting systems, & to obtain bipartisan condemnation of the destruction of ballot images by Miami Dade, Palm Beach, etc. 13/
In 2018, CAP gave Florida an F grade re election security. An F. Don’t blow it, Democrats, with a knee-jerk response to Sabatini. TY. 14/ americanprogress.org/issues/democra…

16/ I haven’t confirmed this, but it is worth looking into.
The findings of @GaSecofState’s secret study of Georgia’s controversial new touchscreen voting machines (BMDs) are similar to a 2004 study of DRE’s with so-called Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs), which are now widely disfavored due 2 concerns about verifiability. 1/
.@GaSecofState’s study didn’t even reach the question of what percent of voters will be able to notice and report inaccuracies caused by the BMDs in marking their “paper ballots” for them. But other studies of VVPATS and BMDs suggest the percent is unacceptably low. 3/
.@GaSecofState study showed that less than 1/2 of voters reviewed machine marked “paper ballots” to confirm the touchscreen voting machines (BMDs) didn’t cheat or err. This is similar to the results of the 2006 study re: DREs & Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails. 1/
Here is a link to my article about DREs and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs). It links to the 2006 VVPAT study. 2/ link.medium.com/BRUmGgHofib
Here is a link to the 2006 VVPAT study in which only 40 percent of voters reviewed the VVPAT to confirm the voting machines didn’t cheat or err. 3/ usenix.org/legacy/events/…
“The Shelby County [funding] Commission rejected a resolution to purchase [touchscreen] voting machines for a 2d time, sending a resounding message to the Election Commission that they still favor hand-marked paper ballots, not ballot marking devices.” 1/ commercialappeal.com/story/news/loc…
This has been an ongoing battle. The funding commission is led by Democrats, but the Election Commission is led by Republicans. At least one Republican on the funding commission voted with the Democrats this time. 2/ #HandMarkedPaperBallots
Ballot marking devices, which the GOP-led election commission wants to force on this heavily African American county, create all sorts of problems, including longer lines & electronic malfunction. They put the burden on voters to make sure the system didn’t cheat. 3/
After approval by Brian Kemp, the Board of Elections in Morgan County, Georgia, including voting rights champion Helen Butler, was replaced last month. Board Members will all now be selected by the partisan County Commission. by @TheBradBlog#gapolbradblog.com 1/
Butler and the other board members were removed pursuant to local legislation. I previously posted (incorrectly) that they were removed under SB202, another dangerous Georgia bill that includes county takeover provisions. 2/

If Ds respond to Sabatini by defending the integrity of Florida’s internet-connected elections, I will tear my hair out. They shld monitor closely, but must NOT pretend Florida elections aren’t suspect. This is an opportunity for Ds to scrutinize FL elections themselves… or 1/
… at least amplify the many legitimate concerns. I believe Broward has a Republican supervisor of elections as well. 2/
I don’t know Sabatini, but if he is a Trump supporter, I doubt his plan is being conducted in good faith. Yes there will be danger. But there is opportunity here too, and the truth matters. The truth is that Florida’s elections are suspect. 3/
