New data on #OpioidDeaths in #Ontario released from the Coroner's Office today. Again, opioid-related deaths continue to climb, with 246 deaths in March 2021 (probable/confirmed)
As we started to see in last month's release, carfentanil involvement continues to grow, contributing to 29 deaths in the first three months of 2021.
Reminder: rates vary by PHU, with huge growth seen in Northern parts of the province ->Thunder Bay, Sudbury, Porcupine, North Bay and Algoma.
Data of suspect drug-related deaths shows continuation of increased deaths during the pandemic (280 suspect drug-related deaths in June 2021). [Many cases continue to be under investigation, so interpret with caution as these data are preliminary.]
We're still losing 8 people a day to opioid-related deaths in Ontario to a dangerous, unpredictable drug supply. This now surpasses daily #COVID deaths in the province.
Remember, these are preventable deaths. But changing these trends will require coordinated investment and action from all levels of government, and MUST be centred on the needs of people and communities impacted by the #overdose crisis.

My mum was vaccinated at Toronto Congress Centre today. We were all excited and relieved; but I have been horrified to hear about her experience. I’m now fearful that today she was put at a higher risk of being exposed to #COVID19 than at any other point in this pandemic. 1/n
Her appointment was for about 3pm. When she arrived, this was the length of line.
I expected there might be long lines outside...at least it was a beautiful day! ☀️2/n
After an hour she got in. My dad waited outside for her, BUT most other people had their companion go inside with them. While I understand that some people need help from a caregiver, my dad said he was one of only a handful who didn’t go in. This made the crowding even worse 3/n
