In case anyone is interested, I had a really interesting #GolfChartChat20 with someone new today. Yes, they are a Republican and yes, you might want to read this. I’ll keep it short.

THREAD
1/ Today, I played with someone new. Retired, VA Medical Center RN, with 3 grown kids.

I’ll use her initial K to identify her. She is retired, around my age, fit, Christian, Republican and a really nice person.
We started with general chat, talked about her husband and mine too…..and eventually got around to the Vaccine, Republicans, Christians, MAGA and more.

So K is a nurse, still works 1 day a week at the VA and helps provide vaccines to folks now. She’s vaccinated, so is her husband. Her 3 children are grown and they are too. I of her daughters is bi-sexual. That’s another story.

She’s angry that people aren’t getting vaccinated. That it’s political and that people aren’t looking at the science. She doesn’t get it. She left her Christian Church because at the last lunch they had, she stood up and told them that God is about love, not about hate

That they should be reaching out to people now, not telling me that God will take care of them and they won’t get the vaccine. They kicked her out of the group. She left the church after 28 years as a member and yes, it’s a really conservative church her in town

Not Bethel (which is crazy town church) but Crosspointe which is very conservative. She said that she believe in God and is a Republican and that is shouldn’t be a choice (which I agree). That people turn their back on the very people they preach about. She couldn’t take it.

She said that as a Republican, she votes for who she believes is the right person, not because of the party. She didn’t vote for Trump, she didn’t vote for Hillary, but she voted for Biden even though she feel that he is flawed. (I didn’t ask).

She thanks her bisexual daughter for helping her see beyond what she heard. She canceled her Facebook account and never watches the news any longer. She thinks Fox and other networks are propaganda and includes GMA in that as well.

She is sincere in her feelings. I felt that. I told her that no matter what we discuss, she can always safely talk with me if she feels she needs to but I think she’s got that covered. She’s strong and also has a voice and I can see she uses it.

She was a joy to listen to. When asked, I told her about me, but mostly listened and asked questions to keep her talking. Again, at the end, as you know I say often, we have more in common than we don’t. I firmly believe it.

I hope we become friends as I believe that we could actually be good ones. It was a pleasure to talk with her and I’ll keep y’all posted.
