#SAGAFTRA background performers we need to talk about your coverage & Netflix contract. Look at this map & comment from @peggylane & see if this helps visualize new problem you have
Your voices should have been heard. If you want it to change vote for @MembershipFirst & @IDEAL_NY
Let's talk @MatthewModine's qualifications for #SAGAFTRA national board President.
His previous challenger ENDORSES him.
FunFact: His opponent has 0 experience serving her union as an officer, board member, convention delegate or even serving on 1 of numerous union committees.
Let's get more specific on what it means to serve union like @MatthewModine@MsJoelyFisher, @xoJodiLong@TheStuntJane & @TheDaveJolliffe have & why it's a must have in our current times, especially for most senior union leadership offices (crisis + steep learning curve = peril):
Here's the TL;DR on choosing the next #SAGAFTRA national board president & why that choice is @MatthewModine
What's the 'big deal' about being #SAGAFTRA's next national president? Isn't it easy, fun & glamorous? Here's @MatthewModine on the fiduciary nature of that role
Also here's what it means to be a fiduciary
How does @MatthewModine plan to overcome contentiousness that's always been a part of #SAGAFTRA? [Spoiler Alert: Separate the issues & philosophical differences from the personalities & put all members interests above your own]
More from @MatthewModine on how to lead #SAGAFTRA as its next national board president & his values of listening to member's requests, of honestly & realistically assessing where the union stands, of being more transparent & problem solving
What is @MatthewModine's vision for #SAGAFTRA members & the union as it's next national board president?
So why not reelect incumbents from the other slate / party? What was their biggest failure?
Per @MatthewModine it's all about the #SAGAFTRA Health Plan
Note negotiating major union contract (TV/Theatrical) w/o noticing & addressing shortfalls to #SAGAFTRA Health Plan was unforced error on part of incumbents in opposing party. PR spin members' dues paid for to convince members who lost coverage otherwise compounds wasteful error
But what about those incumbents who say the #SAGAFTRA Health Plan & its trustees are separate from those responsible for the governance of the union? @MatthewModine: Not so fast...
Put another way: 1) Union's governing board votes on hiring, firing & replacing #SAGAFTRA Health Plan trustees, trustees who owe a fiduciary duty to its union member beneficiaries 2) Money to fund union's health plan comes from hard bargaining when union contracts are negotiated
So how will @MatthewModine@MsJoelyFisher@MembershipFirst@IDEAL_NY & independent candidates negotiate better contracts
Per Matthew, know worth of performers' contributions, learn from other entertainment unions successes & failures & keep union strategy unobvious to employers.
If you are near a picket line, join 1.
Also there are ways to 'flip' a non-union production to become a union production @JaneWorks4U is really knowledgable about how to do this.
When you flip a production from non-union to SAG-AFTRA that brings you ever closer to eligibility & you should see pay bumps over non-union right from the start.
If you think it's 'too risky' right now to try to flip a production, besides walking a picket line in your non-working hours & socializing with union members, there's support work you can do. Groups like @PreWGAStrike do this, so will union staffers.
Just bought myself a gift: a super long life cooler that isn't a Yeti but a better designed cheaper competitor. The black button in the front is apparently a pressure release valve so if you take cooler into high altitude areas, it's easier to open it. Should be great for summer.
I have an even bigger 1 of these coolers (different brand but also a Yeti competitor) that's big enough to put an entire adult deer in (would almost span width of a small pickup bed. It doesn't have wheels but if my freezer or fridge dies, it is my backup until replacement comes)
The Blue I bought is 60 qts so it's getting kind of big for just me to handle by myself (empty it's 36 lbs ) hence wheels. Assuming you don't open it much & keep it out of direct sun it should keep ice frozen for at least 5 days (in theory you can go 10 days before 100% ice melt)
LOL nodding along in psychological astrology student (the good news is a lot of practitioners of this branch of astrology are trained in proper psychology &/or therapists & the very best of them will do more psychotherapy with you rather than reading charts to help you through).
Psychological astrology is grounded in Jungian psychology in case you were wondering. Depending on the astrologer they may also work with other types of psychology in their practices. But yeah make actual psychology more affordable & covered by proper universal health insurance.
Scariest but also most 'worth it' thing I ever did was order Liz Greene's 'cookbook' psychological astrology natal (birth) chart for myself. It took me weeks to really read & understand/accept everything it said about me & I've studied this discipline ever since (so ~8 years).
@BrandonTSnider#Fans4WGA is already on this (most of us are fan veterans of 2007-8 WGA strike support) Let me share some pointers: 1) Our fan made strike graphic (by @midnightoilprod) you can use & share it freely anywhere & everywhere
@BrandonTSnider@midnightoilprod If you want to do something basically free / no cost & get up to speed on what life on strike is like for WGA members, other entertainment business workers & yes even fans screen this free with ads on YouTube #documentary#PencilsDown by @BrianKalata
@BrandonTSnider@midnightoilprod@BrianKalata If you can do some financial support, the highest & best use of your funds is a donation to @alifeinthearts aka the Entertainment Community Fund (formerly known as The Actors Fund. They will be doing a kind of #MutualAid) for people put out of work by the strike
@Smallorchids@rose_quarks I have seen this play out in an interesting way in the town nearest me.
The Food Lion grocery store (only 1 in the town, you have to drive to other towns for more grocery store options) put in a hot chicken wings / pieces bar. $8.99/lb. Not something you can pay for with SNAP-EBT
@Smallorchids@rose_quarks Not something most local people will buy because many of them raise poultry commercially or process it for their living.
So chicken from the hot bar from the day before gets repackaged, discounted & put into the cooler in the deli. Now you can buy it with SNAP-EBT because cold...
@Smallorchids@rose_quarks It's still expensive for what it is like $5/$6 lb. Again it doesn't sell.
So Food Lion employees then freeze it. Then it's donated to the town food pantry which is a USDA pantry.
Food Lion gets a tax write-off (I don't know if it's @ $9/lb or $5/6 lb).
Food pantry overwhelms...
