Spend time looking out the windows or carriage door. The ever-changing landscape provides a rare and hassle-free view of everyday life in India.
Don't smoke inside the bathrooms, It creates a suffocating atmosphere for the next user.
Flush the toilet after use.. It creates a healthy atmosphere for you and the co-passengers.
Indian railways toilets are normally not very much clean. So you should use it less number of times as for hygiene purpose.
Always prefer using the Indian-styled toilet over western. You’d have a much lesser chance of getting contaminated with germs.
Also, make sure you use the loo only while the train is in motion so as to lower the probability of someone sniffing over your belongings.
Also If you are set for a long journey and at the very beginning you see the toilets are the sanitation in pathetic situation, just tweet or lodge a telephonic complaint lodge.
That's how you and rest of the commuters will have clean toilets very shortly.
Never take your phone out of your pocket when standing near the door. Also avoid Train Power Sockets as it uses DC and can damage your electronic devices!
Don’t argue/fight with anyone unnecessarily, keep in mind you are travelling to reach the destinantion safely, not with a fractured body.
Keep you ego down.
Do not indulge in PDA if you’re traveling with a female partner. Porn sites are filled with videos of couples getting mushy in trains.
You can get filmed and posted online during the journey itself.
Carry cash. I’ve literally been in situations where I was seconds away from missing the train as I didn’t have cash on me - once was a bargain situation with the TTE and another one with a tea vendor on the station.
Always carry a reusable bottle with you so you can get it filled from the water ATM in just ₹5 for 1 litre. It will save your money while reducing the plastic waste. 🙏
Whenever you are in the train and you want to buy something in a railway station (when the train stops), first take the item then pay the money.
(Thank me later.)
Carry the following items with you always - water bottle (preferably 2), paper soaps, home cooked food, power bank, eye blinders, newspapers, earphones and some essential medicines while traveling.
Always prefer
Comfort Clothing > Fashion
Homemade Food > Train Meal
Overnight Journey > Day Travel
Rajdhani/Shatabdi > Regular Trains
Side Lower Seat > Upper Berth > Other Seat
Make friends on the train journey , but dont reveal everything about yourself to others . Only speak whatever is required.
Thanks for reading, Happy Journey. 🚂

Some day to day commentary I come across:
