OLYMPICS LIVE THREAD - DAY 11

Well that was an exciting morning of sailing. Two more golds for GB but both of them on the finish line. Dylan Fletcher and Stuart Bithell in the skiff and just now Giles Scott retained his Finn title.
Fletcher and Bithell won gold by literallly a couple of centimetres. Scott had to go past a couple of boats on the final leg and somehow managed to. 6th consecutive Finn gold for GB - our longest run in any event. Sadly it isn't on the Paris schedule.
Hannah Mills and Elidh McIntyre have guaranteed another sailing medal for tomorrow in the Women's 470. Looks likely to be another gold. Fallen out of the medal places in the Men's 470 though.
James Heatly and Jack Laugher have just started in the 3m diving final. They qualified 3rd and 4th from the SF.
And overnight there was one of the great races of all time in the men's 400 hurdles. Karsten Warholm smashed his own world record and went 55.94 - which is Bolt levels of ridiculous. The top 3 got 3 of the 4 fastest times in history. Truly incredible.
Jazz Sawyers was 8th in the long jump, though only 17cm away from a medal. Very close. Jodie Williams and Ama Pipi qualified for the 400m SFs. All three 1500m men qualified for the SF. No Brits in the men's 200m SF. Gemili injured again.
Sorry Warholm was 45.94 not 55.94 - that would be pretty slow....
YES! World Record for GB in the women's team pursuit - they will go for the gold medal at 9.26. Medal guaranteed.
And third medal of the day in the sailing confirmed. It's a silver for John Gimson and Anna Burnet in the Nacra-17. Medal 38 for Team GB.
Wow - Germany break the team pursuit WR again. 0.6 ahead of GB. Those are the two teams in the final race. Should be a cracker. 9.26am.
That's medal 4 of the day for GB and number 39 overall. Jack Laugher gets bronze in the 3m individual diving behind the Chinese.
GB team sprint team just behind favourites Netherlands in 2nd place and just ahead of Australia in 3rd. Going to be another cracking competition.
A highlight of the diving competition was Tom Daley going over to the side of the arena to pick up a new bag of wool for his knitting.
Denmark and GB crash in the team pursuit - not seen that before. But Denmark had caught the last GB rider so I think they go to the final + GB won't be able to go for a medal. They lost Ed Clancy overnight due to back pain + that did for their chances.
GB have put in a request for Denmark to be DQ'd. Drama.
YES! Jason Kenny will become the most decorated Olympian of all time. He is in the gold/silver medal race for the team sprint. A new Olympic Record for them too.
And another Olympic Record for the Dutch who will be the other finalists. Both Jason and Laura Kenny going in gold medal races in the next 45 minutes or so. Both GB teams go in second fastest though.
Denmark have NOT been DQ'd they will go in the final against Italy. No men's team pursuit medal for GB.
No medal for Joe Fraser in the parallel bars. He lost a point on an error somewhere. So below his qualification score.
It's silver (medal 40) for the women's team pursuiters. Germany beat the world record three times. and took 6 seconds off the pre-Olympics best. Just too much for GB. It's a 5th Olympic medal for Laura Kenny.
That time by the German women team pursuiters would have won the gold medal in the MEN's competition in 1996. Insanely fast.
Galal Yafai gaurantees a sixth GB boxing medal in the men's fly by winning his QF. That's the best boxing performance by GB since 1920.
Silver for the GB men's team sprint - they broke apart in lap 2 when Kenny couldn't get on the wheel of Jack Carlin and that was that. Will be disappointed not to do their best in the final but Dutch were strong favourites. That's medal 41 for GB.
Between them the Kennys now have 13 Olympic medals and 10 golds. If they were a country they would be ahead of India, Portugal and Thailand in the all-time Olympic medal table. Two more chances for both to add to the total this week.
And if you haven't had enough excitement yet we have Simone Biles about to go in the women's beam. Can she get a gold after all? She's third up.
The UCI (cycling governing body) tweeted earlier that Denmark would be in the team pursuit final but the official scoring system still says the result is under dispute. Would love to see what was going on in that conversation.
Biles did well but she will not win a gold. She's in 2nd place with 5 to go. I'm just delighted she did a clean routine.
And Biles will win a 7th Olympic medal - silver or bronze. Fantastic effort after everything that's happened in the last week. Anyone who thinks she's weak is a supreme idiot.
It's bronze for Biles. China win Gold and Silver (what a games they're having after coming third in Rio - I think they might nab top top spot from the US).
Right coming up:

11.00 - showjumping qualifying
11.05 - Pat McCormack in GB's first boxing final
11.10 - athletics programme starts. Brits in 110h + 5k heats. Plus Harry Coppell in pole vault final + 3 Brit women in 800m final at 1.25pm.
Nice story in the showjumping where 22 year old Harry Charles is going, in a change to the programme, alongside Scott Brash and Ben Maher. His dad, Peter, won team gold in London with Brash and Maher.
Silver for Pat McCormack - that's medal 42 for GB. He was comfortably beaten in the end by now double Olympic champion Roniel Iglesias. GB will have at least two and possibly four more chances for a boxing gold.
Andrew Pozzi through to the 110h SF. David King is in a three way tie for the last fastest loser place so that might come down to thousands.

Climbing on red button now - it's worth a look. Pretty incredible.
If you just watched Karsten Warholm's 400m hurdles win in 45.94 - that would have won the 400m FLAT at the British championships this year. It's just unreal.
Andy Butchart through to the 5k final - Marc Scott misses out as he was in a much slower heat so all the fastest losers come from heat 2.
All three British jumpers - Harry Charles, Ben Maher and Scott Brash are through to the individual showjumping final. All went clear and inside the time.
200m SFs done. 17 year old American Erriyon Knighton is through. It's between him, the other Americans and Andre DeGrasse of Canada who just ran a 19.73. National record. Next track race is the women's 800m with Alex Bell, Jemma Reekie and Keely Hodgkinson.
By the way on PB times the GB athletes would be 4th, 5th and 7th in this 800m. On SB they'd be 3rd, 4th and 7th. Just warning that it may be three in and nothing out. I think Mu will get gold.
Wow wow wow. Keely Hodgkinson gets silver at 19 years of age. A new star for GB atheltics - and an individual track medal for GB. She also broke Kelly Holmes British Record. That was incredible. Mu wins gold. Reekie got a PB but was just run out into fourth. That's medal 43.
All the GB women got PBs in the race. Six of the eight runners did. Brilliant race.
8 medals today which is equal 3rd best of any day in any Olympics for GB. 10 is the record. Told you it would be a good day.
While we wait for the women's 200m I'm sad to report that Jessica Springstein, Bruce's daughter, on the wonderfully named Don Juan van de Donkhoeve, is unlikely to make the showjumping final having knocked down a fence. She will not be dancing in the dark tonight.
Elaine Thompson-Herah wins the 200m with the second fastest time ever 21.53. That's the double double for her. 18 year old Nambian Mboma got the silver - will will ignite the DSD issue again.
Elaine Thompson-Herah is the first women in history to win four individual atheltics gold medals. The second best ever women sprinter behind Flo Jo (if you consider Flo Jo's times to be fair).
Right that's a wrap for the day. GB up to 13 golds and 43 medals. Compared to previous Olympics:

Rio: 19 golds and 50 medals
London: 22 golds and 48 medals
Beijing: 16 golds and 34 medals

60+ medals very much still on.
GB Tokyo 2020 squad now in equal 5th place vs previous GB teams in total medals. Going past LA 1984 and Stockholm. Still 5 days to go.
Just holding off finishing as Mondo Duplantis so nearly broke the pole vault world record there and may take another attempt. Just tapped it with his chest on the way down.
No WR for Mondo this time. Anyway that really is a wrap. Back later with the day 12 preview with some more guaranteed medals in sailing and boxing plus showjumping + Sky Brown. And there's athletics, cycling + a hockey semi-final.

OLYMPICS PREVIEW THREAD - DAY 13

Just four days left - we're into the home stretch. A quieter day tomorrow but still plenty of interest around.
We have another nightime swim marathon. Hector Pardoe going for GB at 10.30pm. Not considered to be likely to get amongst the medals.
Then the overnight athletics session includes women's 100m relay rounds (2am) - will Dina compete for GB? And the 110h final at 3.55am with Andrew Pozzi going for GB. Grant Holloway the big favourite.

OLYMPICS LIVE THREAD - DAY 12

The big news overnight is that our youngest Olympian SKy Brown is now our youngest Olymplic medalist. A bronze following an incredibly brave third run in the final despite falling on the first two.
The gold and silver went to Japan. Kokona Hiraki, the silver medalist is 12! All the medalists combined were only 4 years older than Katherine Grainger when she won her last medal in Rio.
Fraser Clarke has just lost his superheavyweight boxing SF - with the cut above his eye opened illegally in the QF opening again. He gets a bronze. That's medal 45. GB's women lost their hockey SF against Holland and will be in the bronze medal match.

OLYMPICS PREVIEW THREAD - DAY 12

After a terrific Tuesday GB have a couple of guaranteed medals on Wednesday plus a bunch of other chances amongst a whole range of sports.
If you fancy a nighttime watch the women's swimming marathon starts at 10.30pm featuring Alice Dearing, the first black woman to represent GB in a swimming event. Not amongst the favourites but it's usually a pretty open event.
In the early hours our two stakeboarders finall get underway with Bombette Martin (15) and Sky Brown (13) going in heats in the Park event from 1am. Final at 4.30am. Sky in particular has a good chance of being in the medal mix.

OLYMPICS PREVIEW THREAD - DAY 11

A huge day for Team GB tomorrow with eleven medal chances - 6 or 7 guaranteed or strong - and a super busy morning. Plus Biles is back.
Again most of the GB action is in socialable hours. Overnight there is only an outside chance for Abigail Irozuru and Jazz Sawyers in the women's long jump (2.50am). Pretty open competition but more than three in the field have jumped further. 400m hurdles men's final at 4.20am.
The sailing begins early are today's postponement. Outside chance for Charlotte Dobson and Saksia Tidey in the women's skiff at 4.30am. Followed by a much better chance for Dylan Fletcher and Stuart Bithell in the men's skiff at 5.30am.

OLYMPICS LIVE THREAD - DAY 10

Not a huge amount to catch-up on overnight but lots coming up in the next few hours...
In the athletics Laura Muir and Katie Snowden made it into the 1500m SFs. Beth Dobbin into the 200m SF. Nick Miller into the hammer final. Sirfan Hassan - going for the 1500/5k/10k treble fell in her 1500 heat and ran 200m round the whole field from 50+m back to win. Ridiculous.
Sailing's been called off due to lack of wind so those medal chances are delayed. Coming up:

Cycling: now
Gadirovas on floor: 10am
Athletics: 11am
Emily Campbell/Laurel Hubbard weightlifting: 11.50am

OLYMPIC PREVIEW THREAD DAY 10

As we move into the second week the GB focused action moves later in the morning (thank god I'm exhausted). Relatively quiet day on the medal front tomorrow before a potentially very big day on Tuesday.
Tomorrow's best chances are in the eventing which comes to its conclusion with the team showjumping at 9am and the individual at 12.45pm. GB sit top of the team competition and Oliver Townend / Laura Collett / Tom McEwen in 1st, 3rd and 6th place individually.
We also have a good chance in the men's skiff medal race at 7.33am where Dylan Fletcher and Stuart Bithell currently lie in 2nd place. Charlotte Dobson and Saskia Tidey sit 5th for the women's skiff medal race at 6.33am, having lost a good position from earlier in the week.
