OLYMPICS LIVE THREAD - DAY 12

The big news overnight is that our youngest Olympian SKy Brown is now our youngest Olymplic medalist. A bronze following an incredibly brave third run in the final despite falling on the first two.
The gold and silver went to Japan. Kokona Hiraki, the silver medalist is 12! All the medalists combined were only 4 years older than Katherine Grainger when she won her last medal in Rio.
Fraser Clarke has just lost his superheavyweight boxing SF - with the cut above his eye opened illegally in the QF opening again. He gets a bronze. That's medal 45. GB's women lost their hockey SF against Holland and will be in the bronze medal match.
In the athletics KJT has a decent start and is lying third after two events. With two more this evening. Hopefully she can hold together. Andrew Pozzi sqeaked into the 110mh final.
And we saw another WR in the women's 400mh from the brilliant young American Sydney McLaughlin in 51.46. Her big rival Dalilah Muhammad also broke the old world record and Femke Bol broke the european record in third place. No doubt the tech is helping records tumble.
Cycling just started now with men's sprint qualifying. Ben Whittaker about to go in his boxing final and Hanah Mills / Elidh McIntrye going for gold in the 470 medal race.
Ben Whittaker gets a silver behind big favourite Arlen Lopez in the boxing. That's medal 46 for GB. Still two boxers to go to try and get the elusive gold.
GOLD for Hannah Mills and Elidh McIntrye in the women's 470. That is gold number 14 and medal number 47. Never really in doubt that one. Third of the regatta for GB and 5th medal.
Jack Carlin qualifies third in the cycling sprint qualifying behind the two Dutch favourites. Jason Kenny qualified 8th - Carlin did look better in the team sprint too. Now we get a couple of race rounds over the rest of the day. Katy Marchant going into the women's Keirin heats
Very good run by Katy Marchant - goes straight through to the QFs tomorrow with a comfortable win in her keirin heat. She's our only women sprinter.
FFS Katy Marchant has been DQ'd - I think she gets to go in the repecharge later. There's also a protest in the sailing againt GB by the French. This could be a very frustrating few minutes.
How come skateboarding has developed such prosocial norms (all the competitors seem genuinely happy for each other when they do well - all hugging etc)? And how do we transfer that to other sports?
Live Sky Brown's interview there. "What are you going to do now?" "Hang out with my friends and party". Good call.
The french protest in the sailing has been dismissed. Gold confirmed for GB.
Katy Marchant comfortably through the repecharge and into the semi finals tomorrow. Both Jack Carlin and Jason Kenny through to the next round of the sprint.
Lois Toulsen and Andrea Spendolini Sireix (daughter of TV chef Fred Sireix) both qualify for the SFs of the 10m diving tomorrow.
Liam is looking to retain his title and our best chance of a canoe sprint medal.
Jack Carlin and Jason Kenny both through to the next round of the men's sprint. Still four rounds to go. Carlin looks more likely to get a medal having qualified in 3rd place and so getting easier races. But Kenny is v experienced. Dutch look supreme.
Next we have the individual showjumping final at 11am with three Brits going. Fastest to go clean will win.

And the athletics. Laura Muir and Katie Snowden from 11am. Jodie Williams/Ana Pipi in the 400m. Nick Miller in the hammer. Men's 200m final.
Laura Muir makes it through to the 1500m semi-final. I think she'll be battling for bronze again tbh. Sirfan Hassan looks like she's running a different race. Katie Snowden out.
Massive PB from Jodie Williams - a second off it to go 49.97 and make it into the final of the 400m. Anna Pipi is out. But two finalists secured this morning.
Lizzie Bird 9th in the 3k steeplechase with a new British Record - 9.19.

Harry Charles and Scott Brash have not made it to the jump-off in the showjumping. (Brash went clean but was 0.45 seconds over the time - agony). Ben Maher the last medal chance there.
Ben Maher makes it to the jump off. Only six were clear in the time. Medals will be shared between them. Three Swedish riders, a Dutch one and a Japanese along with Maher.
Oh no - KJT's achilles didn't hold up and she's gone in the 200m. Such bad luck that our two world champion athletes have both been injured so close to the games. So sad.
They'll be an inquest into a poor athletics performance from GB at the games but ultimately if your two best athletes are injured it makes it much harder. Imagine London if Farah and Ennis had both been unable to finish.
Maher has a medal! Leading with two to go.
It's GOLD for Ben Maher. Number 15! And Medal number 48. That was a brilliant jump off run by the aptly named Explosion W.
That's Maher's second Olympic gold after the team win in London. They will go again in the team competition - with the qualifier on Friday.
And most importantly that gold puts us ahead of Australia in the medal table. Albeit not by much....
Still waiting for the men's 200m in about half an hour and to see if Shauna Coxey manages to qualify for the women's climbing fina; but will do the medal round up while we wait....
Another good day for GB - up to 15 golds and 48 medals. At this point in previous games:

Rio: 19 golds and 50 medals
London: 22 golds and 48 medals
Beijing: 16 golds and 38 medals

Significantly above expectations at this stage.
Tokyo 2020 Team GB is now occupying 5th spot against previous versions of the team having gone past Antwerp - just the last three games and the London 1908 outlier ahead with a quarter of the games to go.
Nick Miller gets a sixth in the hammer with a good season's best in a great competition. Not impossible that will be the highest place any GB man gets in an individual atheltics event.
If you think I get overexcited have a listen to the Italian commentators as their men's team win an incredibly close team pursuit final.
Gold for Andre DeGrasse of Canada in the men's 200 in 19.62. Delighted for him after so many near misses in major championships. 8th fastest time ever. Fastest by someone who isn't Jamaican or American.
I'll wrap up there for the day - still keeping an eye on the climbing but that will be going on for a while. Day 13 preview later. A quieter day but still some decent chances to add to the total.

OLYMPIC LIVE THREAD - DAY 13

Only one medal overnight for GB with Liam Heath getting a bronze (medal 49) in the 200m sprint canoe. Galal Yafai also just won his SF so will have a shot a fly boxing gold in a few days.
In the athletics Dina was back in the relay and the British women broke the national record in the 4x100 to qualify comfortably for the final. Andrew Pozzi was 7th in the 110h and shockingly Grant Holloway didn't win - US still haven't won a men's track gold medal.
Currently diving going on with two Brits but neither look likely to challenge for the medals. I'm about to start watching the new design omnium which is 4 endurance races in 1 day. Annoyingly Aus won two surprise golds overnight so we need one of our own....

OLYMPICS PREVIEW THREAD - DAY 13

Just four days left - we're into the home stretch. A quieter day tomorrow but still plenty of interest around.
We have another nightime swim marathon. Hector Pardoe going for GB at 10.30pm. Not considered to be likely to get amongst the medals.
Then the overnight athletics session includes women's 100m relay rounds (2am) - will Dina compete for GB? And the 110h final at 3.55am with Andrew Pozzi going for GB. Grant Holloway the big favourite.

OLYMPICS PREVIEW THREAD - DAY 12

After a terrific Tuesday GB have a couple of guaranteed medals on Wednesday plus a bunch of other chances amongst a whole range of sports.
If you fancy a nighttime watch the women's swimming marathon starts at 10.30pm featuring Alice Dearing, the first black woman to represent GB in a swimming event. Not amongst the favourites but it's usually a pretty open event.
In the early hours our two stakeboarders finall get underway with Bombette Martin (15) and Sky Brown (13) going in heats in the Park event from 1am. Final at 4.30am. Sky in particular has a good chance of being in the medal mix.

OLYMPICS LIVE THREAD - DAY 11

Well that was an exciting morning of sailing. Two more golds for GB but both of them on the finish line. Dylan Fletcher and Stuart Bithell in the skiff and just now Giles Scott retained his Finn title.
Fletcher and Bithell won gold by literallly a couple of centimetres. Scott had to go past a couple of boats on the final leg and somehow managed to. 6th consecutive Finn gold for GB - our longest run in any event. Sadly it isn't on the Paris schedule.
Hannah Mills and Elidh McIntyre have guaranteed another sailing medal for tomorrow in the Women's 470. Looks likely to be another gold. Fallen out of the medal places in the Men's 470 though.

OLYMPICS PREVIEW THREAD - DAY 11

A huge day for Team GB tomorrow with eleven medal chances - 6 or 7 guaranteed or strong - and a super busy morning. Plus Biles is back.
Again most of the GB action is in socialable hours. Overnight there is only an outside chance for Abigail Irozuru and Jazz Sawyers in the women's long jump (2.50am). Pretty open competition but more than three in the field have jumped further. 400m hurdles men's final at 4.20am.
The sailing begins early are today's postponement. Outside chance for Charlotte Dobson and Saksia Tidey in the women's skiff at 4.30am. Followed by a much better chance for Dylan Fletcher and Stuart Bithell in the men's skiff at 5.30am.

OLYMPICS LIVE THREAD - DAY 10

Not a huge amount to catch-up on overnight but lots coming up in the next few hours...
In the athletics Laura Muir and Katie Snowden made it into the 1500m SFs. Beth Dobbin into the 200m SF. Nick Miller into the hammer final. Sirfan Hassan - going for the 1500/5k/10k treble fell in her 1500 heat and ran 200m round the whole field from 50+m back to win. Ridiculous.
Sailing's been called off due to lack of wind so those medal chances are delayed. Coming up:

Cycling: now
Gadirovas on floor: 10am
Athletics: 11am
Emily Campbell/Laurel Hubbard weightlifting: 11.50am
