Based on the press conference I just heard, Andrew Cuomo must resign as Governor of New York and criminal charges should be seriously considered. The powerful must be treated the same as everyone else under the law, and that certainly includes statutes relating to sexual assault.
I find it to be *absolutely effortless* to hold Democrats to the same standard under our rule of law that I would hold Republicans.
It doesn't trouble me at all to say that a wrongdoer like Cuomo should resign.
Why do Republicans find it impossible to have consistent standards?
When Republicans do wrong, it's *literally impossible* to get GOP voters—at least on social media—to put politics aside and uphold the rule of law.
By comparison, when a Democrat does wrong I find that more than 70% of my readers are perfectly happy to see them held accountable.
As a Democrat, I believe in principles, not politicians. If a politician doesn't share my principles, the principles always come first. It's inexplicable to me how Republicans always choose specific politicians over their principles and the acquisition of power over *everything*.
What Republicans on social media will now do is run around claiming no Democrats are willing to hold Cuomo accountable—even as many Democrats with large social media followings are saying exactly the opposite. Nothing means anything to Republicans except getting transient "wins."
Anyone who thinks I or any other serious Democrat would put Cuomo ahead of our principles by ignoring a report by the Attorney General of New York not only doesn't understand me but has a *grave* misunderstanding of what the Democratic Party is. We're *not* a cult of personality.
If you're a reader of this feed who defends Democrats who've done wrong simply because they're Democrats, we're *not* on the same team.
Because my team has to do with the rule of law and abiding first principles, not any one politician who happens to have a "D" after their name.
Every day, this feed implicitly and explicitly urges Republicans to put principles ahead of the acquisition of power or politicians within their party. And every day, the GOP chooses cultish devotion to power and personality over anything like a *code*. I *refuse* to do the same.
On a personal note:
Mario Cuomo came to Harvard Law School in the early 2000s and told us all to get rich before trying to do any good in the world. Chris Cuomo lied to the media about his contacts with me. Andrew Cuomo sexually harassed women.
I'm done with the whole family.

No matter how much you think you know about January 6, you probably haven't heard about these critical events. I hope you'll subscribe, read, and RT. sethabramson.substack.com/p/breaking-new…
1/ I chafe when Democrats repeat their self-contradictory mantra on the insurrection, which somehow includes *both* the line "We know what happened on January 6" (half-right) *and* "We have to find out what happened on January 6" (half-right). This article underlines the problem.
2/ In the article's Introduction, I recap the *15* meetings that preceded the attack on the Capitol that are absolutely *essential* to any investigation of "what happened on January 6." Virtually all these meetings *preceded* January 6. The fact is, there is *much* we don't know.
(🔐) BREAKING NEWS: Trump Adviser Roger Stone Was Closely Attended By a Leading Proud Boy Just Before a Proud Boy Arson, a Proud Boy Riot, and the Proud Boys' Capitol Attack
1/ Trumpist forces attacked government forces at Black Lives Matter Plaza on January 5. This battle remains unreported by media—though it was actually the beginning of the insurrection, and by the morning of January 6 everyone knew about it. The attack began at the Willard Hotel.
2/ Roger Stone has carefully hidden, and lied about, who he was with on January 5 and January 6. PROOF previously catalogued every Stone lie, and outlined what they hid and why. It's now clear Stone associates within the Proud Boys and InfoWars knew—as did Stone—what was coming.
Great news for Substack authors: thumbnail images are back! If you use the "Sections" and "Recommended Links" options—as many of us do—you can now go to your Settings tab and click a box to ensure that thumbnail images are returned to your main and section feeds. Thanks Substack!
(PS) For those who don't use Substack, here's the short version: PROOF looks better than ever now! sethabramson.substack.com
(FOLLOWUP) There's a hitch with the "Archive" tab, but I expect it'll be fixed soon. Right now it shows the most recent articles; you have to click the "Top" tab to see the whole archive (though it's ranked by popularity of article, not date). Hopefully it'll be cleared up soon!
These insurrectionists should already have been subjected to document preservation demands, subpoenas for documents and testimony, interrogations, seizures of digital equipment, Congressional questioning and more. Because nothing has been done, they get to do TV stunts like this.
It's essential that we no longer view these individuals as mere politicians. They're part of an active domestic insurgency that they perpetually incite with both their actions and words behind the scenes and their actions and words in public. They aim to overthrow our government.
This preposterous stunt is in many respects far more sinister than it seems. These are high-profile leaders of a domestic insurgency storming the federal facility where the domestic terrorists they lead are being held—and filming the storming to incite other domestic terrorists.
This is how far behind most of the country is: the picture below has gone viral today as Americans "discover" that all of Trumpworld knew violence was coming January 6. The investigation of January 6 by independent journalists has moved so far beyond "What did Steve Bannon know?"
Prior to January 6, Trump was provided with a security assessment for the Capitol by the Secret Service, per Reuters. Bannon was Trump's top political advisor post-election according to numerous media outlets. His minions Stockton and Lawrence were working with the Oath Keepers.
Every attendee at a Trump "war room" event on January 5 either fled the city or fled the Capitol area either before Trump's speech or just after it. None went to the Capitol. The reason is that all of Trump's inner circle knew violence was coming. And that includes Trump himself.
(🔐) UPDATE: Added Pulitzer Prize winners (35). Will work on Emmy/Murrow Award winners next. Lots of new publications, journalists, Members of Parliament, peers in the House of Lords, and even new members of Congress.
(UPDATE) The "Award Winners" section is complete. I focused mostly on journalism awards, or awards where most of the awards handed out are for journalistic activity. If you'd told me that 146 Emmy Award winners follow PROOF, I would not have believed you. And yet here we are.
(PS) I know this research is esoteric—but it's the sort of thing a researcher does once and then can update easily over time. The utility of the info is expansive, starting with this: it helps readers rebut any who say PROOF isn't being read. Now everyone knows how false that is.
