How does the Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal help us tackle the climate crisis and take key steps towards a sustainable future?

For this week's #WhiteHouseDeepDive, we're digging into the infrastructure deal’s climate investments.
🌎⚡Climate infrastructure THREAD: 1/10 🚆🚰
With a multibillion dollar backlog of repairs, America’s transit is severely neglected. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal invests $105B to make repairs and upgrades, modernize bus and rail fleets, increase station accessibility, and bring transit service to new communities. 2/10
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal goes further than just repairing the infrastructure we already have – it also invests in reducing our public transit's carbon footprint by replacing thousands of transit vehicles, including buses, with clean, zero-emission vehicles. 3/10
The U.S. only has about 100K public electric vehicle (EV) charging points — roughly 8 times less than China.
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal invests $7.5B in deploying a network of EV chargers, including alongside highways, and in rural and disadvantaged communities. 4/10
The infrastructure deal invests a combined $42B in airports, ports and waterways to address repair and maintenance backlogs, shrink congestion and emissions, and drive low-carbon technologies like electrification — reducing environmental impacts on nearby communities. 5/10
Millions of people feel the effects of climate change when their roads wash out, power goes down, or schools flood. The infrastructure deal makes our communities safer and more resilient by investing roughly $50B to protect against droughts, floods, and wildfires. 6/10
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal's $55B investment is the largest investment in clean drinking water in U.S. history. The investment will replace all of our nation's lead pipes and service lines, including those in Tribal nations and disadvantaged communities. 7/10
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal makes the largest investment in addressing harmful legacy pollution in U.S. history, investing $21B to clean up Superfund and brownfield sites, reclaim abandoned mine land, and cap orphaned gas wells. 8/10
As recent power outages have shown, our electric grid is outdated. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal will make roughly $60B in upgrades, building thousands of miles of resilient transmission lines to facilitate growth in renewable energy and funding R&D on new technologies. 9/10

Despite the strong economic recovery under President Biden, two once-in-a-generation economic downturns have made the path to the middle class difficult for many young Americans. Here's a #WhiteHouseDeepDive into how the Build Back Better Agenda helps young people. THREAD:
Young people face barriers on the path to economic security. Home ownership rates are at a historic low for young adults, child care for two children costs at least 50% of the median millennial's salary in 47 states and DC, and the climate crisis poses an urgent threat. 2/10
So how does the Build Back Better Agenda help? It starts with education:
- Providing 2 years of free community college
- Lowering costs for low and middle income students at HBCUs and minority-serving institutions
- Raising the maximum Pell Grant by nearly $1,500
