Watching—@WHO says #LambdaVariant has the potential for increased transmissibility & may have increased resistance to neutralizing antibodies, both characteristics associated with Delta. But no direct efficacy so far, Lambda still too rare. #COVID19 newsweek.com/lambda-vs-delt…
2) “Like the Delta variant, Lambda is highly infectious and thought to be more resistant to vaccines than the original version of the virus. Though much remains unknown about the strain, there have been some alarming characteristics detected by researchers.
3) “At the moment, the Lambda variant has been mainly spreading through South America after first being identified in Peru in August 2020, but cases have been seen in Texas and South Carolina.
4) “Fewer than 700 cases of the Lambda variant have been sequenced in the U.S. out of more than 34 million coronavirus reported cases, according to one estimate. However, the U.S. has only sequenced a small amount of its cases, so the actual number of cases maybe much higher”

📈500% hospitalizations surge—one Houston Texas hospital sees 6x rise (500% increase) in just 3 weeks. ➡️Most age<50 with zero underlying condition! 95% ARE NOT VACCINATED! Doctor: we are “Fighting a war against #COVID19 & human stupidity”.
3) Many doctors in Florida like @SolNataMD now reporting patients dying much much quicker with #DeltaVariant— no longer weeks in ICU— but dying in just days and sometimes just hours. Delta is a 2.0 pandemic virus. It’s not Wuhan 1.0 anymore.
The @CDCgov needs to recognize risks much earlier and faster. The CDC was 6 weeks behind the @WHO in declaring #DeltaVariant a “VARIANT OF CONCERN”. That was an atrociously late declaration. I love the CDC but they need to communicate faster and clearer. straitstimes.com/world/united-s…
2) As for the masking needed for vaccinated, it was clear we needed to mask because of breakthroughs in Singapore contact tracing data. Yet CDC memo had to be leaked to become public.
An epidemiologist from Johns Hopkins walks into a maskless party with 14 fully vaccinated friends… 11 of 14 got breakthrough #COVID19 —so yes, even some epidemiologists had severely underestimated #DeltaVariant. @CDCgov definitely made a grave mistake. baltimoresun.com/opinion/op-ed/…
2) “It was bad luck for my friend, but surely she wasn’t that contagious. Surely all of us were immune. I’d been sitting across the room from her. I figured I’d stay home and isolate from my family for a few days, and that would be that. And even that seemed like overkill…
3) “The official CDC guideline stated that, since I was fully vaccinated, I didn’t need to do anything different unless I started developing symptoms…” (seriously what the hell @CDCgov)
BREAKING—Los Angeles is considering a proposal to require proof of #COVID19 vaccination for entry at most indoor dining & sporting events to curb #DeltaVariant. If passed, it’d be the widest-ranging vaccine entry pass system in US. Respect @lapublichealth! latimes.com/california/sto…
2) “The motion would require eligible individuals to demonstrate they’ve received **at least one vaccination dose** to visit indoor places such as restaurants, bars, retail stores, gyms, spas, movie theaters, stadiums and concert venues.” ➡️one dose not enough for #DeltaVariant!
3) Vaccine for entry… The Biden administration is developing plans to require all foreign travelers to the U.S. to be vaccinated against the coronavirus, with limited exceptions, according to an administration official. nytimes.com/2021/08/04/us/…
⚠️”In last 10 days alone, before school has even opened, 4 school-aged children have been admitted to hospitals.” ~a Florida school superintendent begs @GovRonDeSantis for temporary mask mandate in schools. This FL kid was in pediatric ICU for 3 days⬇️ 🧵
2) Leon County School District Superintendent Rocky Hanna is calling on @GovRonDeSantis to give school districts "flexibility and autonomy" to act to protect students amid a surge in COVID cases that has taxed hospitals locally & statewide. @RonDeSantisFL google.com/amp/s/amp.tall…
3) Hanna on Wednesday morning specifically said he wants to temporarily mandate masks in schools for teachers and students pre-K through 8th grade "who are not eligible to receive a vaccine."
