I despaired with a Senate Republican office on what has become of the party recently. For those who value small government, this turn is not Republicanism but evil. It’s going to do two things.. drain the party of real Conservatives who know immigrants are vital to our economy,
Churches, neighborhoods and competitiveness as a nation. It is not our better angels but a celebration like this reminds me of the anti immigrant movement of the 1920s. The Nazis took notes from us on how we treated African Americans and immigrants when they wrote the Nuremberg
Laws.
What should be done as we watch gatherings of young conservatives celebrating the suffering of refugees under our watch and celebrating closing legal and illegal immigration. Fight back with the pen and any platform you can get. It’s not conservatism they hail but
something else. There is a long history of Republicans championing immigrants and the value of immigration. See @GWBLibrary and his new book Out of Many One. Listen to the debate between George H W Bush & Reagan about immigration. You won’t recognize it in comparing it to Miller.
Many are choosing to leave the R. Party. I’ve seen a great exodus of friends. Leave by your votes. Stay by your membership. Shape it by writing often on what you expect and when you are delivered with this at the ballot box, say you will not be satisfied with this nonsense.
For my Christians out there remember the whole quartet of the vulnerable. Don’t let fools pit one vulnerable group against another. The Kingdom of God calls us to not compromise for party or country but to remain firm. Jesus’ Kingdom is not like this world where tribalism wins.
