Thanks to my views on several contentious topics,I have earned fee badges of honour & often face abuse as well from folks on our side. My fault is that I try to reason basis my understanding of working of govt, gained while working at CM office b/w 2017-21-as official/volunteer.
But for that working, I would have been same and had joined the chorus and outraging at the top of my voice on say Bengal or in a recent case of Ashwini Upadhya etc. However it is imp to document few things to prove that governance & politics is more than a game of arithmetic.
Let me add everything point by point to set the record straight. 1. Govt working: every Govt has to operate as per constitution & follow rules/established procedures that tend to become a law either by an act or by convention / practise. Another reality of Govt is Establishment!
The establishment, generally is used to determine a group that exercised control over the Govt or the polity of the country. For 6 decades of our existence as a democratic republic, Cong was the dominant force & consequently it has disproportionately high control of establishment
No matter how much we say/shout, fact is that while BJP has manage to wrest power, it is yet take full control of the establishment. Precisely the reason why I keep on repeating the need for consolidating our hold on power. Control of establishment comes with time!
The control of the establishment is an invisible thing and it manifests itself bis action by various arms of the Govt. Until you have full control of establishment, you will keep seeing instances of courts striking down laws, babus leaking papers as was done during Rafale etc etc
The action by DP SHO on a protesting Hindu or inaction by Delhi Police in the case of Amanullah Khan are all examples of establishment not yet under BJP & it is justifiable as well- coz it comes with time. Cong may be out of power, it is well entrenched via SOPs or conventions
For BJP to have a vice grip of establishment, 2 things are essential:
a) consolidation of power 2) people in prominent positions
Consolidation of power comes by winning elections and that is why I support BJP becoming a Election machine for now-Bengal is happening coz we LOST
b)People in prominent positions means across various verticals of government apparatus - be it judiciary, executive, press or even within academia.
How many of us are willing to even sacrifice our present for a cause with uncertain outcome- those who do, u all abuse them!
Continuing with above- a judge that gets appointed today goes on to serve at least 10-12 years, all secretary level officers today are of 1987-1989 batch- time when BJP was not a force but Cong was. But natural for them to have relationships in that party and favour them.
So on the executive front as well as on judiciary front, we have to swallow a bitter pill and work around what we have in hand. That is why control of legislature is important- many of u mock 303 but those 303 seats is what ensure that other two arms are in check.
4th arm that is press, will come under control with time. Even today many of yesteryears stars of press are relevant as they all still have hope of seeing Cong return to power and that keeps them going. Ditto for academia and other arms. Together they all form ESTABLISHMENT
That brings me back to why is consolidation of power is important - “to complete the project i.e. takeover of the establishment.”
Hence stop mocking 303 seats as whatever changes we are seeing today is the result of that. Else we know what happd between 2004-14
2. On Bengal: People are questioning silence of PM & HM as also others.
While fact is that no one in his/her senses can ever justify it nor remain unaffected by it & so can’t be leaders who we look upto. But understand that other lady has nothing much @ stake other than Bengal
Also she knows that by raising the pitch in Bengal, not only can she make it difficult for Govt of the day but she also sends signal to every sections within the state known for history of violent politics. Imagine how barbaric can that woman be to sanction rape of fellow women!
Mamata, by continuing the politics of violence is actually raising the stakes for the Govt. If Govt acts against her, she will cry victimhood & become a dominant force in national politics-we hv seen how unprincipled players in national politics are when it comes to taking on BJP
As against Mamata, PM @narendramodi cannot stoop to her level nor can his ministerial colleagues. That leaves the fray open for the party to act and stand against her- which it is doing. Be it using party cadres in giving back or by using available SOPs or cases against TMC
Sadly & unfortunately, this approach will NOT bear instant results. Maintaining studious silence on issue is also a way of communicating but that doesn’t mean party leadership & one within Govt is unaffected and unfazed by it. They are doing & will do what it takes to respond
The hostile environment in which our Govt is functioning makes it difficult to be seen as an oppressor. By very nature of politics, Govt of the day has to be seen as a victim and not oppressor. Hyenas of the hostile environment are waiting in the wings to pounce on Govt @ 1st opp
You can’t give up gains elsewhere just for looking good in the eyes of social media or score brownie points there. 3 ministers of her Govt were arrested, NHRC report is in the court. Pls understand how federal system works in India. Yes center doesn’t have unlimited powers!
Mamata’s time will come and she will meet the fate worse than let by likes of other abusers and those who used to threaten Govt earlier - like Muftis or even Abdullahs etc. Her time to meet her karma will come and come soon!
3. On Ashwini Upadhya type cases- well the fact is that it is incidents like this that helps politicians like him to graduate to next level. If AU has any sense, it is good for his career. Besides, when slogans like that are raised in capital, you need to show credible action!
If I would be AU, I will be happy as this makes him into a hero and will catapult him into big league of Delhi BJP. The situation is there for him to capitalise on as he won’t face any harassment for sure -जेल जाकर तो भाईसाब दिल्ली के बड़े नेता बन सकते हैं- मिश्रा जी को देखो 😁
4. Coming back to the retired IPS officer who is projecting him as a new Hindu Hriday Samrat, let it be known that I have seen his contribution during my effort to use his services for helping us reform Devsthanam act- my way or highway approaches don’t work in politics
Man was asked to draft an alternate law by way of changes in the law already passed by the state Govt. I made him available the copy, connected him to @BBTheorist and our CS. End result was ZERO coz he wanted his ideas to become a law- it doesn’t work like that.
Problem with these hardcore wannabe netas masquerading as Hindu activists is that they think that they alone want good for Hindus and have sense of Hindu issues and solutions. And on top of that they all have elephantine ego!
5. Oh yes - two more things: Not everyone joins the Govt to make quick money or tweets in lieu of money. Some do take this as a case of doing what they actually believe in - I, during my 4 years, have NOT taken a single penny and precisely why I say things without any fear!
It was retired IPS officer who had to quit a Watsapp group where he used to share all his gyan day in day out, after I gave him back - reason is simple, I have nothing in my closet to fear anyone; he had and that’s why he couldn’t counter one word. Activism is NOT a prof for me!

3 days after the election results, BJPs party president was in Bengal to meet the victims - but then this doesn’t matter to online warriors simply because it doesn’t suit the narrative they are promoting
Bengal is a case of violence being perpetrated on the party and party’s president was in Bengal 3 days after that; clearly party is retaliating also. At Govt level, govt’s representative in the state- Governor- is making daily noise but then what people want is - PM to spk 1/2
This obsession about hearing for words instead of making sense of the actions being taken is not a new thing in the behavioural pattern of online warriors- Bengal, at least since 1970s has always seen massive political violence in the form of retaliation by party in power…
Often u must have heard an argument abt Modi Govt spending Rs 24,000 crs on minority scholarships to further the narrative that BJP and RSS are engaged in some sort of minority appeasement, being spread by the gang that hails Owaisi ally as most dharmic leader> Thread follows!
The genesis of this claim by the particular gang is this Dec 19 @SwarajyaMag report filed by @haryannviswarajyamag.com/ideas/seculari… - what this gang never tells you is that the amt of Rs 24K crores was spent during 6 years on 26 schemes run by Minority affairs ministry
Here is spreadsheet from @SwarajyaMag report to set the matters straight. Rs 24,000 crores over 6 years makes is Rs 4000 cr per year on an average....big deal well...for this gang hell-bent on furthering their narrative it must be so..but reality is lot different- lets examnine
How many of u remember taulayi kutayi of a Hockey umpire by Indian team in Dhaka in 1984 -if I’m not wrong it included Mervyn Fernandes, Joaquim Carvallaho and others
I remember watching 1982 Asiad match where Mullah brothers - Salimullah and Kalimullah along with Hasan Sardar played havoc with Indian defences :)
I think everyone of us who grew up in 80s were all essentially hockey fans as well- followed it with similar intensity as cricket -one match I still remember listening to was Champions trophy match with Germany when Pargat Singh last min brilliance helped Ind make it 5-5 from 2-5
Great to see pahari ornaments from yesteryears make a comeback- proud of my younger sister who copied my late nani’s hansuli’s design taking my mother’s inputs for this.
She did same with out of fashion “gulband” design almost 15 yrs ago and then too she had copied my nani!
Gulband also made a great come back in last few years but pahari jewellers were deft at making some of the most amazing gulband in traditional pahari style!
Another pahari jewellery that is making a comeback is paunchi worn on wrists
Dear @AgnesCallamard kudos to you for diversifying @amnesty into an IT surveillance company as well while doing all these campaigns. But this diversification of yours raises more unanswered Qns and doubts abt ur motivation!
Although the integrity of the supposed database claimed to have been the record of 50,000 telephone nos chosen for snooping by countries allegedly using NSO software - @AgnesCallamard you all have not said a word abt that
The association and collusion of @amnesty and motivated organisation like @citizenlab is established by the fact that they are loaning their employees to you for running Shane projects like #PegasusProject
How an Indian - Aaswath Raman, a materials science and engineering professor at the University of California at Los Angeles, & co-founder of SkyCool Systems, is silently scripting a revolution in the field of airconditioning via radiative cooling! popsci.com/science/modern…
CENTURIES AGO, desert-dwelling peoples exploited radiative cooling to make ice. In the evenings, they insulated the walls of large bowls or pits, then poured in water. During the pitch-black night, heat escaped the liquid, and by morning, it was frozen solid.
Tilted toward the sun, the panels absorb almost none of the warmth beating down on them; they even launch some into space. After Grocery Outlet put panels on the roof of the 25K sqft building in late 19, energy use by the store’s refrigeration system dropped by 15%-$6K savings py
