"...politically moderate parents are motivated by nothing other than concern that their children are not denied appropriate, sensitive healthcare." 1/12
21 organizations in 13 countries say #nothankyou to EPATH genspect.org/21-organizatio…
"1. The epidemiology of paediatric cases has changed markedly from prepubescent males to adolescent girls, now the largest group consulting transgender health specialists. 2/12
"What plans does EPATH have to produce more objective research and statistics on this phenomenon, especially in terms of social factors? 3/12
"2. Recent epidemiological shifts remain poorly understood and have profound implications for treatment decisions. Since they were not included in the basic research evaluating medical treatment of gender dysphoric minors, how does EPATH seek to correct this? 4/12
"3. How will EPATH guidelines account for the high levels of mental health and neurocognitive comorbidities – particularly autism – among cases of gender dysphoria? 5/12
"4. Where medical transition occurs on the basis of a superficial assessment and is later regretted, what measures does EPATH set in place to ensure that such poor clinical practice is corrected? 6/12
"5. The UK National Institute of Health and Care Excellence states that the potential benefits of hormones must be weighed against their largely unknown long-term safety profile when it comes to children and adolescents with gender dysphoria. 7/12
"How does EPATH intend to conduct prospective, longitudinal, ethically approved research on gender dysphoria in children and adolescents? 8/12
"6. The correlation between gender dysphoria and suicidality side-lines the precautionary principle. Most research on this relationship is biased and of poor quality. How does EPATH intend to demonstrate the suicide rates being claimed? 9/12
"7. Gender non-conforming behaviours and interests in childhood are highly predictive of homosexual orientation in adulthood. How do EPATH guidelines safeguard against conversion therapy under another name? 10/12
"We are confident that EPATH will agree with us that young people with gender issues deserve quality support, based on impartial and up-to-date medical evidence. In this spirit, we look forward to their responses to our questions." 11/12
LGB Alliance USA also looks forward to the responses to these questions. We oppose the transitioning of children, puberty blockers, all surgical intervention, and the medicalization of kids under 18 suffering from gender dysphoria. #SexNotGender 12/12

"Last week, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) rejected SEGM’s application to share the latest evidence regarding the practice of pediatric gender transition at AAP's upcoming annual conference in Philadelphia in October 2021. /1 segm.org/AAP_silences_d… via @SEGMtweets
"This rejection sends a strong signal that the AAP does not want to see any debate on what constitutes evidence-based care for gender-diverse youth. /2
"The risks of "gender-affirmative" hormones and surgeries include not only the immediate adverse effects of these interventions, /3
"Rob Hoogland, was sentenced to serve 6 months in jail for the crime of attempting to protect his child from medical assault, for speaking up, for refusing to abide by a legally enforced belief system — gender ideology. /1
Young people do not reach full cognitive brain development till around the age of 25, yet the B.C. Infants Act says a minor can consent to medical treatments. /2
...most youth who are diagnosed with “gender dysphoria” would otherwise grow up to be LGB, if they are allowed to grow up — Statistically speaking, 75% would grow up to be LGB, and 85% would grow up to be LGB or straight. /3
When will media outlets like @NPR stop being lazy & start doing their job?!
The #EqualityAct is a HUGE departure from the gains achieved in the SCOTUS Bostock ruling & there are meaningful objections to the Act that aren't religious!
"This act would explicitly enshrine those nondiscrimination protections into law for sexual orientation and gender identity, rather [...] 'sex.' However, the Equality Act would also substantially expand those protections." /2
This glosses over an important point:
The #EqualityAct does NOT follow the Bostock ruling which enshrined protections on the basis of sex. Instead of sex, the Act is based on gender identity.
This causes a cascade of damages that affect LGB people as well as women and girls /3
Since @RepCicilline/@DavidCicilline introduced it, people ask us "Why is a group dedicated to LGB rights concerned about the Equality Act? What's not to like about a law that protects people from being discriminated against on the basis of sexual orientation?"
A thread! /1
There are some wonderful (and overdue!) things in the Equality Act that we welcome. Of course!
But while we applaud the parts of the Act that advance LGB rights, we feel that despite being well-meaning, the bill acts as a kind of Trojan Horse for homophobia and misogyny. /2
As a community, the gay movement has waited so long for some of the important changes in the Equality Act, many aren't thinking critically about the trouble contained in it. To be clear, the problem WITHIN the Equality Act is NOT trans people, it is something ideological. /3
Rep. David Cicilline (D-R.I.) & Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) look at the week of Feb. 22 to introduce the Equality Act with a vote expected as early as March./1
