not even 460+ new cases have distracted Berejiklian from her misleading announcements on wild cases. She tacked on a “likely to increase given some are still under investigation”, but still uses the lowest possible figure.
she says we have reached her 50% vaccinated target. No clarity on first or second dose. So misleading. Really dangerously dishonest.
and of course the official response is police, for compliance, because there are people doing the wrong thing and cause a “major major setback”. They are sending riot squad into Mt Druitt.
no mention of the test and isolate payment but she reads out additional fines in great detail. These are for “affected” local government areas with the picky, messy, piecemeal, LGA-by-suburb rules. Riot squad to issue fines in Blacktown is a heavy price for her bad decisions.
real estate inspections will require a permit. Good one mate.
if Berejiklian announced the overnight life-saving policy shift at this mornings briefing - between lavishing attention on her cops and soldiers decisions - I missed it.
Dr McAnulty repeats the figures. No max wild case number doth pass his lips. Hands off to the pleece who says he does not apologise for heavy handed pleecing. We know, chief.
she personally feels the burden of what they are asking their community to do, says Berejiklian. A recurring tell, she again protests too much.
overseas cases and imaginary deaths. Drink.
they (she says “we”) “thought Australia was different from other parts of the world but we’re not”. This is not two seconds after she told us about overseas infection numbers and lives she personally has saved in her own lunchtime.
she says they are concerned about Indigenous communities. Concern has become a semiotic. “Areas of concern” are low income LGAS. It signals people whose lives she considers expendable.
we are one NSW, and One Nation. Omfg.
now Berejiklian is spelling out how to apply for federal disaster payments. If she mentioned the life-saving test-and-isolate payment announced overnight, I missed it.
this is literally a war we are in, says Berejiklian, which it is not.
a request came from police in relation to operational matters, she says, on “standard rules” to help pleece identify who is doing the wrong thing. This is in relation to the 5km rule? I think. Whilst it is a health matter it is an operational matter.
Berejiklian assures Fuller he will get whatever powers he wants.
“if you need anything let us know”
she “calls it a micro strategy” in “every single area of concern” and claims “we know that strategy is working”, a lie.
the construction pause. People want to get back to work in a safe way and that has inspired people to come forward and get vaccinated. They want to get back to work, says Berejiklian. No connection between work AND PAY is made.
“what we’ve learnt in the last few weeks is how virulent it’s been” says the NSW Premier of 15 week old information about the delta strain.
hard to follow what she is saying here but it seems to be a claim that police can start fining people from tomorrow for not having a permit and the permit system proper will kick in - retrospectively? - from Monday.
asked about 17yo tradies, Berejiklian says we know that in some areas of concern there are households with three generations under one roof and unforchunately workers are coming home and infecting their families.
she catches herself for repeating a phrase, but it was not “please know”, I think it was “whole of government response”. She wishes all her decisions were perfect but they never will be😬
she is lying about the “different languages” health comms, which have not been rapid or kept up to date at all. Segues immediately to “different strategies” in “very vulnerable Indigenous communities”. Again, her neglect is the issue there.
HOLD THE FRONT PAGE. Berejiklian mentions the test and isolate payment for a full 3 seconds and then immediately slides sideways to the federal disaster payment.
nothing screams neoliberal managerialism louder than her repeated insistence that the main focus is hospitalisations. They want to save lives, she says, and save health - she stumbles - and save livelihoods, she recites.
lotta Morrison at the NSW briefing today. War. Lives and livelihoods. A race, a sprint. Telling Fuller from the podium he will get whatever he wants while refusing to tell workers they are eligible for test and isolate payments. Sydney Liberals mate. They are the worst people.
“will we always get it right? Of course we won’t” - yes well the evidence is in on that one.
obviously we have a problem with escalating cases so we will send in more police [abridged].
people in areas with very low cases are making sacrifices as well, says Berejiklian, as tho the choppers are keeping kids awake all night in Woolhara.
okay Premier. Time to go. Utility peak was reached when she shiftily slipped out that she has conformed to the national target of 70% double dose before muddying the messaging with her “60% then 70% then 80%” pandemic politics.
three weeks ago Fuller asked for additional powers around masks and he got that. He asked for additional soldiers and got that. Takes credit for what people in Fairfield have achieved. Conflates “police response” with “health response” which are different things.
asked about online abuse, Fuller says people need to calm down.
I’ve got the powers that I asked for, boasts the pleece chief. He says with the soldiers and the pleece powers we can get NSW out of lockdown quicker. He says you have to carry ID. If anyone has seen that law I would be interested in a link.
they “will be pleecing much much harder in the next three weeks”. Terrifying for many.
are people lying? We work each day with the numbers on hand, says Dr McAnulty. Thank you very much. He exits behind the others. Seems Berejiklian has deliberately stopped calling last drinks and just walks off when someone in her supporting cast is still speaking instead.
max wild cases today is 390, which Berejiklian called 68 and, for the first time, she conceded that number is “likely to increase given some are still under investigation”.

Berejiklian is up. She starts with testing numbers and 415 new cases of community transmission. The lowest possible infectious in community figure is given, as usual. Stay home, get tested and isolate, she says.
the main suburbs of concern. She is acting completely business as usual. Food and to get vaccinated and that’s it, are reasons to leave home in Blacktown, Mt Druitt, Merrylands, Doonside.
a passing reference to “the deputy premier” and “regional NSW” and “our Indigenous communities” and she barrels onto thanking the prime minister for his extra dose announcement, 5 million doses, and bumper vax days for tradies.

the prime minister is up. He wants to thank Australians. He does this for a bit and then thanks *those Australians* who are complying with the NSW health orders.
not five minutes ago Anastasia Palasczuzk confirmed her governments response to the state-wide NSW lockdown. Now Scott Morrison has confirmed his support for the NSW state wide lockdown. The NSW Premier has not yet spoken on the NSW statewide lockdown.
a million doses of hope blah blah blah

finally, a NSW government policy that will bend the curve downwards. Give it a week. This will work.
I mean my perspective is wholly western Sydney-centric - for the obvious reason lol - sending love to regional NSW - but ever since she unleashed it across high-density low-income insecurely-employed south west and western Sydney, this is where the thing HAS to be contained.
it hits me at odd moments, this lockdown. Joined my first union in 1985. Been a casual worker almost ten years. Saw a tweet about test and isolate payments and burst into tears.
