NSW ONE WEEK STATE WIDE LOCKDOWN - ABC News 24.
no word yet on which of her various levels of lockdown will apply.
NSW one week lockdown from 5pm today - ABC news 24.
all channels are reporting the state wide lockdown but Berejiklian is not fronting the cameras. Like every lockdown extension this wave, she has leaked it to avoid the optics of being directly associated with an unpopular decision.
the ABC just published this, but there is still no word on whether a 5 or 10 km radius will apply to the statewide lockdown. Infuriating lack of info, a space into which the Craigs n Georges are always happy to step.

turns out it is a tweet from Barilaro and framed as “regional NSW” being locked down. The absolute fucking cowardice of this.

two tweets from the NSW deputy premier is the sum total official information on NSW statewide lockdown starting 2.5 hours later.
the Barilaro tweets do not clarify permitted movement radius. There is no link to an official media release.
ABC news 24 crosses to “Alison in Coogee” to “take us through” the lockdown of “regional” NSW from 5pm tonight. Omnishambles.
seems Alison has gone to Coogee to film people moving around Coogee.

the main suburbs of concern. She is acting completely business as usual. Food and to get vaccinated and that’s it, are reasons to leave home in Blacktown, Mt Druitt, Merrylands, Doonside.

the prime minister is up. He wants to thank Australians. He does this for a bit and then thanks *those Australians* who are complying with the NSW health orders.
not five minutes ago Anastasia Palasczuzk confirmed her governments response to the state-wide NSW lockdown. Now Scott Morrison has confirmed his support for the NSW state wide lockdown. The NSW Premier has not yet spoken on the NSW statewide lockdown.

not even 460+ new cases have distracted Berejiklian from her misleading announcements on wild cases. She tacked on a “likely to increase given some are still under investigation”, but still uses the lowest possible figure.
she says we have reached her 50% vaccinated target. No clarity on first or second dose. So misleading. Really dangerously dishonest.
and of course the official response is police, for compliance, because there are people doing the wrong thing and cause a “major major setback”. They are sending riot squad into Mt Druitt.

finally, a NSW government policy that will bend the curve downwards. Give it a week. This will work.
I mean my perspective is wholly western Sydney-centric - for the obvious reason lol - sending love to regional NSW - but ever since she unleashed it across high-density low-income insecurely-employed south west and western Sydney, this is where the thing HAS to be contained.
it hits me at odd moments, this lockdown. Joined my first union in 1985. Been a casual worker almost ten years. Saw a tweet about test and isolate payments and burst into tears.
